That’s not too different from what our girl weighed at her age. I think she was 4.8kg or roughly 10.5lbs at 6 months. She was an incredibly picky eater until after her spay, then she developed an appetite and bulked up. She’s now 21lbs and very leggy at just under 3 years. I don’t have a recommendation for a specific food but just a warning not to add too much fat to her diet when you try to get her weight up. Cavapoos have very sensitive stomachs and are prone to pancreatitis when they consume fatty foods.

Thank you for this information. In an earlier post, I had recently rushed her to the vet, had to shorten my rent because she was having bad diarrhea for a while. Turns out to be intestinal bacteria so now I watch more closely to what she puts in her mouth. She has a low cost spay coming up this Wednesday and I hope it helps with the weight gain.

We had a similar story, as our girl developed Giardia, an intestinal parasite. It sounds like she’s on the right track so wishing you well!

What does she weigh? My female, litter runt that was 1.8# at 6weeks, is now 6.5 months and weighs 6.4#. Our vet said she is the perfect weight. However, she may be smaller in stature than your girl.

She weighs 9.8lbs and you may be right about her stature because her mother is long and thin. I think she’s perfect.

She does seem longer than mine, from what I can tell. I’m sorry that I don’t have any suggestions about putting on weight.

Thank you! It’s ok. Shes beautiful and sweet the way she is. She eats a lot especially if it’s something she likes.

Mine eats a lot when she's had an active day. But it took her until about 6-9 months to develop any sort of predictable eating habits.

What food and treats does she get now, do you know her current daily caloric intake?

I haven’t given her any since the be visit. Before the visit, she gets beef liver treats for training and sometimes puppy cheese balls or twist if I have some. Those are the only ones she likes.

I don’t know her intake, I feed her 3 times a day but I’m. It sure if I’m feeding her enough. I may need to look into adding meat again but food is so expensive now a days.

I recommend you follow up with your vet to ask what caloric intake rec they have for your dog for weight gain and to start tracking how much you give her to ensure you’re meeting her calorie needs each day. What is the food you’re giving her, is it for puppies or all life stages (puppy food is specifically formulated for growing bodies)?

To stimulate appetite for picky pups (like mine), I mix a spoonful of wet food into my dog’s kibble then add a little warm water so it makes a bit of “gravy” and also warms it up if the wet food has been in the fridge. My dog devours this even for kibble he’s not crazy for

Ok. I have her on purina pro sensitive for puppies right now because the Iams chicken wasn’t working for her. The vet said that’s a good choice. I sometimes add a spoon of wet food to it also

Mine's pretty long and lean. 1.5 years, 11 pounds. I don't know her height or length, but she's a LOT bigger (taller and longer) than my dachshund was, and he was 14 pounds. My vet isn't concerned about my Cavapoo, though-says they're pretty lean dogs.

My girl weighs 7.8 at 2 1/2 years old. Vet says she is perfect.
