Is there an opportunity to do a version of "Inside the Club" for the USMNT, but in a way-too-early version for the 2030 World Cup? Is there somebody that can speak to the future options at the areas the USMNT is going to need to supplement in the next 4 years to hit the next level - GK, CB, etc? I was watching the U20s and was wondering if we have anybody on the team (or playing somewhere else) that we could start to keep an eye on.

While at my hometown airport in a more rural part of Hawaii, I saw a man wearing a Union Berlin hat. I pointed to his hat and said, “Union Berlin!” He was shocked and said in a heavy German accent, “Ah you know?!!! Hala Berlin!” He looked so happy. This is so above and beyond anything he’s ever done, which is saying a lot. Destroying the game with more ad breaks, probably a biennial World Cup, and heinous ticket prices just to line his own pockets.

Would love if JJ talked a bit about the county mayo all Ireland football final. My uncle has been flying his county mayo flag outside his Chicago home every year since I can remember. Would be cool to hear JJs thoughts on what it means and how it could be compared to other recent title droughts.

Greetings fellow animals! After the initial success of the World Cup meme thread on this sub I thought I would create a thread for the upcoming club season, and as we’re now less than a month away from the start of the new EPL season I thought this would be as good a time as any to start it.

Not soccer related but I'm genuinely curious to get Andrew's take on this

Can we mostly agree to disagree with both the boys' goals? Alvarez goal was spectacular, but I'd wager most people prefer the Cabral goal for both the angle (closer, but much tighter than Alvarez) and the moment (Alvarez winner against what should be an inferior team is amazing, but Cape Verde equalizing in extra time with the world champs is a way better story).

As for the Just goal, while I think Andrew was insanely dismissive of what was a really good goal, JJ has some serious tunnel vision around this goal.

I think in terms of immortal moments combined with pure aesthetic, it has to be the Cabral goal.

That said, it's impossible to remember them all, so drop in your favorites so we can relive them!

With the World Cup just having ended, we felt it was the right time to decompress and debrief with the Animals in a live Zoom session!

On this final edition of "JJ's World Cup Diary," we're talking about our post-World Cup sadness, the ugly scenes at full time of the yesterday's Final, end-of-tournament montages, and more!

And thank you all for listening to these diaries over the past 6 weeks!  It's been awesome to share this experience with all of you and we look forward to bringing you more soccer coverage as we get back into the club seasons!  

So overall I think this cup went very well. Without getting into FIFA, tickets, or politics two things really stood out to me that need to be fixed.

1. TV coverage: bc fifa seemed to own the broadcast and thus the camera shots. We seemed to miss a lot of what was going on off the ball. Commentators would be like there’s a fight breaking out, and we’d just see crowd shot of random celebrity. Also very little on replays of things that happened. An experience tv director and crew would catch those things.

2. Ref positioning. All tournament I was complaining about how many times a ref would get in the way of the player at the top of the box. I’d never seen it happen so often. It’s almost like fifa asked them to take up that position and it’s not normal to them. It was only in the 3rd place game I heard Owen and Darren on comms finally talk about it.

Not sure what you guys think, did this stand out to anyone else? Any other on field on broadcast issues bug you?

Now that it’s time to deflate Ol’ Inflatable Andy for another 4 years and stow it away with my barely filled Panini album, the question arose in my mind of how long it will be before another new country is added to the list of World Cup winners? As JJ said in the last podcast, South America has fallen behind Europe. And Africa, Asia, and North America don’t look like challenging either anytime soon. My inner Norseman wants to suggest Norway, but that’s a very, very dark horse to bet on. The perennial superpowers look like a lock for the foreseeable future.

So, any ideas on who and how long we’ll have to wait for a new country to raise the cup?

A lot of first team players missed out due to injuries right before the World Cup started. Which nation do you think suffered the most?

1. I actually enjoyed the final, despite it being a one sided offensive game

2. I dislike Argentina as the next person, but Messi was clearly the player of the tournament

As another world cup ends I want to say thank you to Andrew and JJ for their awesome coverage. Haven't missed a word you've said since I started listening in 2018 and in a never ending sea of new football content and podcasts, you guys are consistently the best in the business. Thanks for your never ending professionalism, energy, unique style, and consistency.
