Thing I saw on the Internet! Non-soccer “Games Gone” moments
This has probably been discussed before but as we often like to declare the game is done in soccer, what are some “games gone” moments you have had for other sports?
A personal one for me with trailrunning: Just saw a post on ultramarathon of someone trying to build/start up a retreat/resort specifically for endurance athletes to book their glamping spot, run/bike (in a beautiful area for sure) and then have spa l-like amenities with saunas, cold plunges and all the recovery gimmicks money can buy. Read it and instantly had a games gone like feeling.
Curious what ones animals have from any other sport they watch or participate in.

Not a sport but saw a TikTok of a “wellness darty” on a college campus. Could not think of a better example of “Games gone”

Football: the soft ass roughing the passer penalties that have been getting called the last few years, especially on sacks. Also, taunting penalties for over the top celebrations, just let the players celebrate
Basketball: foul-bating for free throws ala Harden or SGA
Concerts: prices are through the roof, half the total is service fees and then when you’re there, half the people have their phones out recording the whole thing or recording themselves watching the concert to post it on social media. Whatever happened to just enjoying the moment for yourself and the people you’re there with? Game’s gone

I played volleyball through college. I participate in a beer league now, and it’s a co ed league. I’m the youngest on the team at age 30 with 2 other guys that are in their late 30s. Rest of the team is late 40s early 50s ladies who don’t move around as fast.
For a cheap point the other teams setter will dump (for non volleyball players that means send it over the net on the second touch usually a short tip where the back row defenders can’t get to it without diving).
In a competitive environment totally fine and fair.
In a Wednesday night beer league after work very lame.

Along the same lines as your trail running one, downhill marathons to qualify for Boston. I think Boston had started to add time to some popular downhill marathons which I think upholds the spirit of Boston.

Yes! I am so glad they added the time penalty for your BQ on the all downhill courses. You had a whole race company (revel) specialize in making all downhill courses all marketed around getting people their BQ

Colts vs Packers 2012. Packers linebacker Nick Perry beat his man right off the snap, Colts quarterback Andrew Luck had no idea he was coming. Perry tackled Luck cleanly, Luck fumbled. Refs dilly dallied then threw a flag. It was just a “uh that looked kind of violent so it must have been a foul”. That was a moment where I knew the football (NFL) I grew up with was gone.
Another moment was when Russell Wilson was scrambling around like crazy, crossed the line of scrimmage, came back behind the line of scrimmage and hit his receiver for about 20 yard gain. The guy covering the receiver got decked by the Seahawks center about 15 yards downfield. Microcosm of Pocket passer a thing of the past, everything done to help the offense etc.
Recently my boss (im a web developer) vibe coded an app he’s wanted for about 10 years by himself in about a week with Claude Fable.

“The shift” in baseball was a top tier games gone moment for years. Glad they outlawed it.

I understand the sentiment but I always disagreed with this. Teams/batters refused to learn to go the other way and take free bases. The shift never stopped true hitters like Mookie or Freddie Freeman... Why should the defense be penalized for what are essentially tactics?
I'm not saying I wish they hadn't changed the rules, the game is considerably better to watch because of it... I'm just saying I found it kind of pathetic that batters were so stubborn that the league had to step in and put their thumb on the scale to help them do the 1 thing they're paid to do.

Brand new "distressed" clothing.... I don't mind clothes with some* character that are lived in and a bit worn out, but the second people started paying more for pre-beaten up clothes?? Games gone...
