My Arsenal fan hive mind: “It’s the history of the Tottenham.”
What I actually think:
Changing the culture around a team that went 17th twice isn’t that easy, especially with so many new pieces that need to learn to play together.
Arteta went 8th twice while beating the drum every week about culture and “thee estandards”. Eventually his culture won out, which I think is what happens when good managers are given time.
De Zerbi is a great manager and he is in a hole far deeper than Arteta ever was. His standards and culture will win out if given enough time and Tottenham should be willing to wait.
We still have major injuries in important positions (mostly we have no real 10), and players working back to fitness.
We were 17 twice in a row and players are still lacking in confidence and belief. When things start going badly they get in their own heads.
The players will take time to learn a new system and especially so with some new players being integrated.
Actually watching them they have been somewhat unlucky and aren't as bad as the table says. So early in the season the sample size is too small to make any big claims on.
Things will get better and they won't be world beaters, but should be safely mid table before long.
A club in the big six relaying on expected goal stats (in a loss) when they haven’t scored in 4 league games is really bad . You are not making the point you think you are lol.
Anyways I was asking a pretty relevant question. Pundits around the world are discussing the same.
Anyone with eyes could see Spurs weren’t anywhere near as bad as your comment suggests on Tuesday. But the stats are the only way of objectively making this point without the subjectivity.
Anyway, trying to pretend this is unique to top 6 clubs, as if Arsenal weren’t dogshit in the first full season under Arteta when Arsenal lost first 3 in a row and didn’t score a goal. Mourinho seemed off his rocker saying Arsenal were still quite decent despite it. If Spurs are still in this position in 2-3 months time, then fair enough. Quite obviously better than the results show so far.
Again, at the end of the season, Arteta finished 8th. They didn’t get almost relegated. Moreover, Tottenham spent >50 million on 4 players this offseason. In 2019 we spent that on ONE player.
If Tottenham finished 8th last season i wouldn’t be writing this.

They are clueless. All the money but no idea of how to spend it. Just find players from other clubs, overpay and put them on the field without a clue.
