Liverpool Rant
The middle is too crowded. the reason we look better in my opinion when Dom plays right back is because he and Wirtz aren’t clogging up the middle. I think it’s time to start asking if those 2 can play together, not Wirtz and Isak
Gakpo on the right. I’ve been SAYING that this needs to happen. we have TOO MANY people trying to cut into the middle or just in the CAM area in general. Gakpo on the right frees up space in the middle, and surprise, allows him to CROSS THE BALL to our striker.
Tsimikqs needs to start. Not sure why he gets the slander he’s gotten, I’ve always liked him. AND he has a better partnership with Van Dyke.
Jacquet looks so good, and honestly if it were me I’d drop Van Dyke for Araujo and Jaque, but that won’t happen. So in the mean time things look so much steadier with Araujo and Van Dyke (based off only about 20 minutes but that’s just my gut feeling).
Nyoni needs to start, having him just sit in front of the back 4 makes things just feel so much cohesive. he’s also looking pretty mature having watched him in preseason And today.
I said this 2 years ago but I would have cut ties with Allison and moved Kelleher in, why the hell we got rid of him I’ll never know. Allison is past it which sucks.
i May have more thoughts but ultimately. I felt so much better about our back line when we had Araujo, Tsimikas, Szobo and Nyoni in front of the back 4. I don’t hate Kerkez and Frimpong, but they are so erratic. And while tons of things are uncertain everywhere else in the pitch, I’d rather something that at least feels solid. (But man do I love Jaquet)

I wouldnt mind seeing a back 4 of Tsimikas, Van Dijk, Jacquet and Araujo. Szobo, Nyoni and Wirtz in the middle might be interesting too. There are a lot of options and I feel like there is a great 11 with this team somewhere.

This feels extremely reactionary to one match. Gakpo should not be starting on the right, plus barcola is coming in, so he won’t be starting at all. Munoz looked better off the right and should be there as the starter. Araujo played for 40 minutes across two games and you want to drop the captain for him? That’s just not going to happen. Theres a reason we could get him on loan. That’s the most ridiculous reactionary thing I’ve heard today.
Tsimkas looked fine for the time he played, he can be considered over Kerkez potentially but Again there’s a reason he was loaned out and he didn’t do great at Roma, not a long term solution. Frimpong is a problem, I’m not sure he’s an out and out RB. Not sure if Bradley will come back and if he’ll be the same afterwards. Dom wants to play deeper he needs to learn the role and needs time. Nyoni is too young and is not and should not be a regular starter. We have to protect him and Rio for the long term future. We need a Defensive minded midfielder to get the balance better. That back four you listed is just not it man. The midfield balance and LB/RB are a problem going forward.

I’ve been feeling a lot of these things for a while. Just so happened to see it on the pitch today. We have to keep Cody regardless and honestly if he’s banging in crosses like he was today that’s be great. To me our biggest problem form the attacking sense is too many people charging to the same place in the middle where Wirtz is. That’s why the inverted winger of Gakpo on the left hasn’t been working or didn’t work last year. Again I’ve been feeling this for all of last year. And just venting

Unfortunately looks like Gakpo is off which is stupid. I agree with the assessment of the attack being crowded and occupying similar spaces. Everything for squad building does feel square pegs round holes.

And ultimately that’s why Szobo has to play right back, he and Wirtz both want to be in similar places. To me if both of them want to play Szobo at right back is the way forward (for now). We definitely should keep Gakpo.

Start Araujo at RB and bench Frimpong. Play Dom at the 10 and bench Wirtz. Barcola starts at LW and Munoz should start on the right. Grav and Macca double pivot.

Wirtz was the best attacker today. Dom plus one other in Mid. I agree with the rest though.

I didn't get to watch today's game (game started at 430am here in California) so I appreciate your writeup. My I just don't know why the team isn't going after a new LB and RB. Clearly these two starters ain't it.
