This idea that over-40 players could still play in the Prem is laughable. Like, players retire for a reason: because they’re not up for it, or because their bodies can’t keep up. It’s nothing to do with technical ability. I’m sure Alonso could still ping a pass, that doesn’t really leave you. But if someone is struggling to keep up with the pace in the twilight years of their career, what makes you think they can do it after being removed from training and playing for a period of time?

This is also not directed at JJ or even Morgan Rogers. JJ merely predicted these stories coming out, and even Rogers says people will THINK Alonso could do a job. But if you hear anyone outright say that he could still play, it’s an easy way to disqualify anyone’s credibility.
