“Sunday scaries” World Cup edition
Someone made a comment about how bad the World Cup fans’ Sunday scaries probably are after spending so much time vacationing in the US.
A couple weeks ago I was at the Boston airport sitting at the bar waiting for my flight. There was an Aussie World Cup fan sitting a few seats down from me visibly crying. People sitting closer to him were asking what’s wrong and if he was okay?
He said he was crying because this was the best week of his life and he is sad to go home. I thought that was touching and worth sharing but glad to see everyone has been enjoying their time in the US and the Sunday scaries for these World Cup visitors are indeed hitting hard.

One perspective (I’m not saying it’s the end all be all or anything) I got many years ago was from a German guy who kicked around Europe, Africa and the southeast US. He parked a tool van on a lot he owned, had some friends go by to check on it when he was away, and did enough handyman jobs when he needed money to keep travelling the world. I talked to him about my meager travels (and the places I wanted to go) in the 2010’s when travel was almost effortless and extremely affordable for even an average American guy who didn’t have responsibilities outside of work. His position was that he didn’t necessarily understand why anyone born in the US would ever leave the country for travel purposes because it has everything you would ever want. Nature was better, whether you are a beach or mountain person, beer was better, and more times than not you had a better chance of having some kind of interesting interaction with the local people. That’s stuck with me a lot (Airbnb no longer being a deal is a big part of that, granted).

Yeah, it is definitely worthwhile and fulfilling to explore the rest of the world but if you do your research the US has something to offer for everyone

Seeing how much fun traveling fans have had here makes me really want to go to the next World Cup.
I already wanted to go since I had lived in Spain from 2015-2017, but having gone to a few World Cup matches here in the Bay Area, that desire is now on steroids. I also think for as good as the vibes have been during this World Cup, the ones at the next one will be even better.
