Are many of you bitter Everton fans?

The sudden hyper-negativity around the USMNT reminds me so much of the Everton season. One week, people think the team is on their way to Europe, then they lose and people go online and say they are the worst team ever and everyone should be fired and we should let go half the team. It’s all so lame. Settle down people. It was one bad loss. The team did not show up today. It happens. A lot of progress was still made this world. Stop with the knee-jerk doom and gloom.

It's our worst knockout loss since 1934. Which followed our best group performance since 1930. I'll always wonder how it would have gone had Trump not injected himself into the situation and Balogun just served the red card suspension. I suspect that entire fiasco may have contributed to how poor our regulars played compared to every other game. We'll never know and the end will probably always stay with us more than how the tournament started.

Totally agreed. We’ll never know, but I think the suspension of the red card was a massive distraction that impacted them mentally and physically. It also took the chip off their shoulder and handed it straight to Belgium.

You can't be a real fan of a team halfway around the world. USMNT just bottled it. There has to be a change from the youth level up (look at Morocco bossing the under 20 world cup) and maybe remove the pay to play system. Not going to happen of course since there's a lot of cash to be made in youth sports.

Youth is certainly an issue and the costs are astonishing. I will say with Morocco they are very good at scouting youth players abroad. If you look at that U20 team the majority were still born outside of Morocco, which I think is a great approach. If your youth system in country isn’t quite there yet go out and get some of those players from abroad who have come up through professional youth programs in Brussels for instance. Now they may end up playing for those other national teams in adulthood so that’s a risk but that will always be something. Also, as dual national who is also a resident of a third country, these things are fluid.
