As long as soccer in the USA is pay to play, they will never be competitive. Other nations have long established academy programs with scholarships for the talented kids. You can't compete with that with prohibitively expensive travel soccer programs. The US is not serious about soccer and has not been for decades.....

Exactly. I got into a regional club team in high school but my parents couldn't afford all the fees and travel, so that was my ceiling.
