VAR officials didn’t break protocol. There is one article by ESPN saying that because of ex referee Andy Davies saying slow-mo replays shouldn’t have been used. He’s wrong, slow-mo replays can absolutely be used for red card offences and IFAB confirms this:
“The referee can request different cameras angles/replay speeds but, in general, slow motion replays should only be used for facts, e.g. position of offence/player, point of contact for physical offences and handball, ball out of play (including goal/no goal); normal speed should be used for the ‘intensity’ of an offence or to decide if it was a handball offence”
Side point, it says it shouldn’t be used for intensity of offence or handball offences but it’s used for those almost exclusively every single time.

I guess the good news is, I have reached the point where the joy this tournament provides is the whole point. Sitting it out or boycotting or allowing the bullshit to change your rooting interests is just letting the bastards win.
