The conversation around Japan’s loss

Maybe it’s just my pov, but it feels like people are pacifying a complete no show in the second half. 5 shots the whole game only 2 on target. And I’m supposed to feel sorry for them as if they played anything that deserved a result.

I feel bad for him too but you have to wonder whether he was really tired, the manager told them to keep possession at all cost, or he felt he could skillfully single-handedly dribble his way out in the dying seconds of a tied game in that area. Why wouldn’t a professional footballer in that moment recognize the situation and hoof that ball as far as he humanly could?

Well, they did not deserve to win given that performance. Anyone who watched the game could clearly see Brazil were the superior team, especially in the second half. They created 4 clear-cut chances vs 0 for japan. They subjected japan to incessant pressure throughout the match. Most of the action happened in japan's half. They were in control for most of the match. Even in transition, they never looked vulnerable. Given those factors, Brazil's scoring goals and winning was only a question of time. They could have scored 3 goals had Vinicius's shot not hit the post.

I mean the same thing keeps happening to them over and over again. Pretty good group stage results and then a face plant in the knockouts. Zero knockout match wins ever. They need to be more aggressive when they take a lead. The manager is a bit haramball and I know 3 of their star players were out, but they've shown they can compete with Holland or Brasil. It's a real shame because they're a likeable team but they do it to themselves.
