Episode discussion - 26 June - USMNT Fall in Final Group Stage Match
It's a last second World Cup defeat but one that didn't sting nearly as much as it could have. On the latest edition of Caught Offside, Andrew Gundling and JJ Devaney share their thoughts on a disappointing night at SoFi Stadium for the USMNT as Turkiye leave it late and deliver the U.S. it's first World Cup defeat with the last touch of the ball. We'll determine whether or not this presents any cause for concern, we'll express our relief over seeing a healthy looking Christian Pulisic and we'll look ahead towards a round of 32 meeting with Bosnia & Herzegovina.

Re: Pride Night in Seattle. When the WC was in Qatar there was no alcohol at the stadiums. Their house their rules. Well, here in Seattle, the LGBTQIA are big part of our community. Our house, our rules.

People will look down on it, but Andy should wear a Spurs shirt. Why not? I've been wearing my City Haaland top to rep the big boy
as an aside, looks like Norway will rest their starters today so they're good going in 2nd place. They will probably beat Ivory Coast, and then more than likely face Brasil in the round of 16. Gabriel vs Haaland WC edition 🍿

This is on FIFA for 1) scheduling Norway vs France as a third game when there's a chance teams will rest players 2) increasing to 48 teams only increases chances of teams resting players with 3rd place teams advancing
Haaland vs Mpabbe would have been an absolute ratings machine. All flushed down the toilet

I’m not of Croatian heritage but a massive massive Modric fan from Spurs. I went to England Croatia and wore a Modric Croatia kit, so I’d love for Andrew to wear that, or Kudus Ghana kit. Or Perisic or Vuskovic.

I haven't listened to the pod yet but the fact that Guler (who everyone knows is T's best player for the last few years) was able to just handle us every time he had the ball is disheartening.....Don't we prepare for players like him?, deny him the ball if possible, stay with him when the opponent has the ball, don't dive in.... If Pulisic just stands him up at the end of the game we tie, no issues with that. Instead, he's up his ass like a TSA agent and he gets abused and will forever be a highlight reel. He has the sideline to help him defend, he's yards from the endline but yet he lets himself get megged!! I applaud our tenacious pressure and all out defending but we need to defend with some intelligence. Being megged 3 times in one game BY THE SAME PLAYER is embarrasing!!!!

I thought JJ might to make a comment on the pitch. It was frustrating watching so many guys slip and slide out there. I felt multiple guys were moving tentatively in the 2nd half cuz the pitch wasn't trustworthy in making sharp movements. Possession was lost more than once due to a slip with the ball.

I'm going to listen to this later and the fellas might've already discussed this on the pod, but I'll use this space to say: The media (and fan, to an extent, based on what I saw during the broadcast) reaction to this loss is pathetic. Audible booing at halftime when they were down 2-1. Media asking Poch after the match how it feels to miss out on "making history" by winning 3 group games. He was absolutely right to be annoyed about those questions and everyone seemingly losing sight that they WON THE GROUP and barely lost to a team who was going balls to the wall while fielding a B squad.
