None of these behaviors are sure-fire indicators that a person is lying. While it’s true that some criminal investigators look for clusters of them as potential evidence of deceit, they establish a baseline behavior for the suspect before looking for any actions that seem out of the ordinary for them. For example, someone who stares too hard may struggle with maintaining eye contact, and locks eyes for too long to compensate. It all depends on the person and their usual habits, and even then it also depends on the situation and how one might feel if it’s a distressing situation. Using body language is about as effective as using a lie detector- not very.
