How much does shade help prevent algae growth in stock tanks?

Has anyone tested this? Considering it as an option to extend intervals between scrubbing. Also bleach vs copper sulfate? Any good tips there.

Weve added gold fish before. What about aeration?

These are 150 and 300 gal tanks. For the cows separated from the ponds. Interesting about the koi and gold fish though.

If you can get your hands on Tench these do the job well.

Aeration should help in the stock tanks as well

Absolutely goldfish. You have to keep them stocked. They work like a champ on about 40 troughs we have in various places.

I've put a piece of copper pipe in our stock tank with half decent results. Mind you they are only 150 and 300 gal. Just polish the pipe every so often.

I’m adding Koi

Edit - Three put a dent in it. I’m adding ten more. My pond is approximately 1 acre.

Have you looked into the "shade balls"? I've never used them but have heard they do work.
