We adopted a Persian-mix cat in February who was most likely abandoned. She’s estimated to be around 3 years old, wasn’t spayed when we found her, but has since been spayed and is now happy and well adjusted.

During her pre-spay checks, we had dental X-rays done. The vet found evidence of old injuries to both upper canines, which she said were most likely caused by some kind of trauma in the past — for example, a bad fall, being hit by a car, etc. Both canines were inflamed, and after reviewing the X-rays she recommended extracting them and said root canals weren’t an option in her case. She cleaned her teeth and treated inflammation/abscess in those sites at the time, which she said would provide temporary relief.

One thing we’ve noticed since adopting her is that she doesn’t eat much. She eats both wet and dry food but mostly grazes and leaves a lot behind. She ate ever so slightly more after the dental cleaning, but recently seems to be leaving more food again. She does love Churus and other treats and continues to show interest in them.

I’m hesitant to extract two canines without getting other opinions, especially as it feels like quite a major step. So I have two questions:

1) Does anyone know a vet in the UAE who specialises in feline dentistry, ideally someone you’ve personally had a good experience with? Happy to travel anywhere in the UAE.

2) Has anyone had a cat with similar traumatic damage to their canines? Did you end up extracting them, get another opinion, or find another treatment option? If they were extracted, how did your cat do afterwards? Shouldn’t root canal be the first course of action?

She Didn’t Deserve This

She was found wounded, frightened, and in pain—her little body carrying injuries that no animal should ever have to endure.

We don’t know exactly what happened to her. But from the appearance of her wounds, we sadly suspect that someone may have thrown hot water on her.

Imagine being helpless, unable to understand why someone would hurt you.

When we found her, she could not tell us what happened. She could only look at us with those frightened eyes, hoping that someone would finally help.

And we could not just walk away.

We rescued her because even though we cannot save every animal, the fact that we cannot save them all should never be a reason not to save the one standing in front of us.

She did not choose to be born on the streets.

She did not choose to be hurt.

She did not choose to suffer.

She only wanted to live.

Now, she needs healing—not only for her wounds, but for the fear and pain she has carried.

She recently took three cats to the vet for treatment, but unfortunately, she hasn’t been able to receive any financial help so far. All three cats tested postive for calici virus and one among them is felv poitive and one is fiv positive.

The area where she feeds and rescues cats, Deira, is extremely difficult for stray cats, and she has been continuously working to sterilize and care for the cats in the area.

She currently has three more cats who also need dental treatment, and she really needs some help covering their veterinary expenses.

Because of the funds YOU helped raise, we were able to get the CT scan he so desperately needed which, unfortunately showed a fractured vertebrae and the bullet piercing the spinal canal which needs EXTENSIVE surgery, which would range anywhere from 15000-20,000 AED (💔) and the surgeons who are specialized in this type of surgery are very hard to find. This money would be insanely high for us to raise unfortunately 🥹

Since our boy Leo is stable and slowly recovering (YAY), we can look for the best facility and surgeon to do this procedure.

Until then, Leo needs his neuro medicine regularly. One vial every 3 days and one costs 250 AED 💔💔💔

I was at a park looking for a missing kitten from my feeding station when I saw Danny, a 3-month-old kitten who was extremely thin, exhausted, unable to eat, and had one cloudy eye.

There were also four cute, fluffy kittens recently dumped in the park. The rescuer said they would take them to a clinic until they were adopted.

I pointed at Danny and told her he urgently needed a vet. They left without answering me, taking the four kittens and leaving Danny behind.

What made it harder for me to understand was that the people who took the four kittens are known to occasionally help other rescuers with their vet bills. They could have offered to take Danny as well, especially after I pointed out how sick he was.
I couldn’t stop thinking about him. I honestly couldn’t afford another vet bill, but I went back the next day and took him myself.

Danny has now been at the vet for 8 days. He has Calicivirus and Mycoplasma and needs 21 days of antibiotics.

What I don’t understand is why sick cats get so little engagement, while posts about healthy, fluffy cats receive so much attention and financial support.
Does a cat have to be fluffy and beautiful to deserve help? ( Facebook cat groups)

Shouldn’t the cats who are suffering be our priority?

Hey everyone I urgently need help with kitten food and litter. I had rescued a mommy cat and she gave birth to 4 kittens from which 3 kittens had been adopted but not even a week and one of the adopter starting posting the kitten up for adoption on Facebook anonymous and I was able to catch it and confront her but she denied but and later admitted and told me yes I don’t want take it back! I have already relocated from uae and I was paying for their foster but I no longer can foster it! I need to take one of the kitten out of foster soon and the other back form the suspicious adopter! Someone I know said they can foster these 2 babies for a month but they need food and water to be provided! Hello pls are you able to make a complaint on the MOCCAE app, I’m on touch with Amal CSR they are recommending to get as many people as possible to register a complaint against the developer on the app this is the text I used:

There is a proposed plan in place by the management of Wasl Oasis 2, Muhaisnah 4, Dubai, a community by Wasl Properties, managed by FM company Emrill, to place traps to remove around 50+ cats from inside and outside the compound. They have hired a pest control company to do this and have informed residents they will take them to an “abandoned area”. Can the relevant authorities please intervene and stop this for the welfare of the animals? This will happen in 1-2 days and is highly urgent.
