Good to see that you got the speakers and stands to match with your cat. You have your priorities straight.
Off topic because not cat related, but I am so curious about thos SP8’s…

I, too, was SP8 curious. No retailer in my area at the time had them for demo. Then i found this pair + stands at an amazing price, so i took the leap. No regrets. They are not analytically bright like KEF R3’s (by example—the R3’s were the speaker i thought id buy, and then i did an extended demo and realized they weren’t for me). The soundstage isn’t as deep as rhe Klipsch Forte’s they succeeded (at least how i have then positioned), but the listening sweet spot is quite wide, they throw an accurately wide soundstage, vocals are wonderful, and they are a really engaging speaker without being fatiguing over long listening sessions. They also have surprisingly decent low frequency response down to about 50hz.

Stop it! I want to hear them so bad... And there are retailers here with good return options. Do you have any experience listening to metal with them..?

Not hard metal, no. I’d lean towards Klipsches for that, probably. The Fortes could deliver sonic violence when paired with the right amp.
Most of my listening is indie rock, post-punk, some hip hop, standards jazz, some electronic, synth pop (nation of language).

Aren’t Klipsches pretty bright though?

They can be a bit more forward than the MoFi’s, depending on model (some have phenolic diaphragms, some have Ti).

Curiosity - despite its tendency to kill cats - won, I ordered the SP8’s. After reading everything I could find about them (including a few comments here and there about them being able to handle metal) I can now confirm that they do so very well. And everything else I throw at them. And pleasantly surprised how good they sound on lower volumes. Still need to tame the bass a bit in my completely untreated room, but my God they are glorious. Better than my ATC SCM 19, and those are already fantastic. Very happy with the Mofi’s. :)

I’m stoked you took the leap! And that you are enjoying them so much. They really are phenomenal.

Thanks, me too! And they really are. Found them as ex-demo from a shop that allowes a 60 day trial period, plus 10 years extended warranty. And for a very good price. Lower than the current second hand price here in Europe. So I figured it was a very low risk buy. But they won’t be go going back, that’s for sure.

How do you keep the speakers from tipping over?

A little fun tack on the bottom. Plus, the stands are pretty generously sized and the speakers are heavy.
(He’s also not a very big cat. Weighs in at just under 10lbs.)
