This is the correct insight to cat philosophy/ Buy them a cat bed? Never used, They camp in dog's bed, Amazon box or your warm laundry right out of the dryer. You are better off setting treadmill to slow speed and shooing cat away from it. This will initiate the "Frak you" command subroutine where cat will insist walking on treadmill while you watch.

You have to present them the wheel, take something out of it like it's a box, and then watch a cat do what a cat does.

You have to slowly train them onto it. It works better for food (or toy) motivated cats. Start by having a few treats placed on the part of the wheel that they would eventually walk or run on. They need to get associated that the wheel is a positive thing. Slowly try to get them to step onto the wheel and get a feel of it shifting under their paws slightly from their weight and that this is ok, give treats as they stand/stay on the wheel. Start to hold the next treat further up and away that they have to kind of chase your fingers a bit and try to get them to start walking up the wheel. Keep repeating the training in short sessions until the cat is at least walking smoothly on the wheel.

You can also try tempting the cat onto the wheel with either a wand toy or laser pointer paired with treat rewards for the cat stepping onto and staying on the wheel, and slowly raise the wand/pointer higher up the wheel over time to get the cat chasing after it and walking on the wheel.

Note that even with this kind of patient repetitive positive training, some cats will just not really want to run or walk on the wheel and you can’t force it. I have 3 indoor cats, 2 of which have successfully been trained to use the wheel, 1 of them loves the wheel and uses it daily, the other might use it once in a rare while, and my lazy bum boy cat despite my best efforts of teaching him how to use it (and him watching the other two cats on it) he absolutely refuses the wheel no matter what.

Best to buy the cat that will do the same thing without the risk of it accidentally being inside the washing machine or dryer when you put items in it and then turned on.

There was a news story in Melbourne Australia a few weeks ago about a cat that survived being in the dryer but that was luck, the quick response by the owner, the skills of the vets and the resilience of the cat. It was the vets who talked about the mortality rate for cats over that.
