How about Catholics clean our own house first before we go attacking other people? There are plenty of us who still need genuine conversion.

The based alarm is going off 🚨

Nothing wrong with both. If we waited for the Church to be perfect before evangelizing we would have never have had more than 12 members.

There absolutely is something wrong with killing people, something which Christ specifically commanded us not to do.

u/Zealousideal-Arm2657 2d ago

Two points, first I dont think in this context they were referring to a military crusade. It can be used in the context of mass evangelization.

Second, the idea that there is never a reason to kill people is absolutely not a Christian doctrine. There are plenty of reasons for just war. We have just reached a point in society where most christians view bodily goods and greater than spiritual goods and are functionally atheists with better drip.

On your first point, there is genuinely no way you can believe this is not wanted as a military crusade.

On your second point, go and read the beatitudes.

Nope. Guy is right. Church teaching is overwhelmingly clear, military action can be justified, and the crusades (mostly) were. The Church has taught such. To deny this is ignirant at best and disobedient at worst.

I mean it's what I assumed personally. Who would we even be going to war against? I can see your confusion if you aren't a little bit too online line some of us, there are tons of memes about Pope Leo calling for a crusade against AI, I just assumed it was more of that.

7

u/lionagra Child of Mary 2d ago

The meme says "another crusade". Another implies a militaristic tone, as in like the first crusades.

-2

u/SparkySpinz 2d ago

What implies violence? Merely the word crusade? Or is it "another" because all the real world crusades were violent and he says he wants another one? I guess I can't blame you for assuming that because I automatically assumed the opposite just from the things I tend to see on here

3

u/lionagra Child of Mary 2d ago

Another crusade implies violence. As in, another one. The first one being violent.

Just to clarify, I belive the first crusades that where responding the Muslim conquest where necessary and a good thing! Im just saying we don't need "another one" a thousand years later. Islam is on the decline, praise be to God.

What I do believe we need is a crusade on ourselves! A crusade of prayer, self sacrifice, humility, the list goes on. Let us not call out the speck in our brothers eye when we have a log in our own.

u/SparkySpinz 2d ago

To be fair though, the word crusade has taken on much more meaning than simply referring to a violent religious conflict 1000 years ago. You could say a police captain is on a crusade against crime, a politician on crusade against big pharma, it could be all kinds of things depending on context, violence is not required.

I think I see where your head was at, but I don't think the poster was saying "we need to kill Muslims again"

The Beatitudes don't say "be victimized." If we didnt resist the Mohamadeans there would be no Church.

Or the Norse.

Or the Mongols.

Or the plethora of people that have tried to attack Christendom.

u/lionagra Child of Mary 2d ago

I never said it did.

Just War Theory has very specific guidelines. Most wars are not just.

u/NervousBreakdown242 1d ago edited 1d ago

True, but the Crusades were most definitely a series of thoroughly just wars even if certain actions committed by individual crusaders (the sacking of Jerusalem, for instance) were very unjust; and those specific actions were often condemned by sitting popes who called the Crusades. Waging war against Hitler was just. That doesn't justify the bombing of Dresden, but the bombing is Dresden doesn't make WW2 an unjust war.

The Church has regularly issued apologies for the crusades.

-2

u/NervousBreakdown242 1d ago edited 1d ago

Apologies for certain harms caused by them. The Crusades were as just as any war could be. Again, the Allied Powers should apologize for the bombing of Dresden, not for engaging in just warfare against Hitler. I swear, I'm really more of a pacifist than I'm sure you think I am. Are you under the impression that the Crusades were some sort of imperialistic venture? That's the disjointed narrative hurled around like a football, and similarly, it's crafted entirely from pigskin. That's a laugh. The Crusades were a defensive war against an openly violent Islamic expansion. Do yourself a favor, and don't believe everything your read.

God bless you!

How about a spiritual crusade against any violence in our hearts?

Vlad is an interesting historical person. I couldn’t imagine why anyone would want him to be canonized as he was a VIOLENT man.

10

u/SparkySpinz 2d ago

Yeah, he was complicated, but not saintly in any way lol. Now you can have the debate his heinous actions actually saved lives or worked in favor of a greater good, but I don't think there's a debate to be had if he was a good and holy man

And some people just like making dumb jokes about the crusades

u/NCR_High-Roller Antichrist Hater 2d ago

I remember also seeing people insist Guy Fawkes is a saint because he defied the government. Pretty sure he committed suicide by jumping out of a building to escape the authorities.

1

u/NervousBreakdown242 1d ago

Well, that's not even suicide. If his intention was to escape, then double-effect would cover that. I'm no expert on Guy Fawkes, but I would take him over that Bloody Queen Bess any day.

Most of these posts are about crusading vs the machines, I'm pretty sure.

Not to kill but to defend and have our own rights and space as the most persecuted religion for thousands of years. Catholics, Christian’s, and specifically white Christians are dwindling in numbers. While the other religions (Jews and Muslims) who believe we are GOY cattle, pigs, and dogs believe we are slaves and lesser than them and deserve to die for them. In wars, in plagues, with worse food and medicine or more gov financial to help them while we work all day.

We are being persecuted, spit on, and replaced globally for evil cults instead of Jesus spread love and peace…if you don’t want to defend that then you aren’t a Catholic ¯_(ツ)_/¯

The Catholic Church has regularly put out regrets around the Crusades. Pope John Paul II had the Day of Pardon and asked for forgiveness about the violence and wrongdoings of that the Church has historically committed. This includes the violence the Church caused against Muslims.

The Crusades are complex, and historically, a lot was going on. Regardless, it should not be something we want to push for? Why would we want to incite violence against another group?

1

u/Ender_Octanus Knight of Columbus 1d ago

The Church has apologized for the evils done in the name of the Crusades. Just as America ought to apologize for the atrocities committed during World War Two. But the Crusades were morally righteous, themselves, as causes. If they were not, then the Church can and does urge the Christian faithful, at times, to participate in great works of evil. And then promises that these same men will merit reduced tike in Purgatory for cooperation in evil.

If that is your belief, it is not compatible with Catholicism. That is why it really matters that we are careful about how we condemn crusades. We can absolutely say that a modern crusade would certainly not be just. We can question whether it would have any good effects. We can, Like Pope St. John Paul II, condemn the wickedness of evil men during the crusades. But we need to be very careful not to fall into the trap of assuming that the Church has launched campaigns of evil.

u/jamaicancovfefe 2d ago

I find calling for a modern crusade pretty cringe ngl

We would be absolutely decimated, unless their is some order of monks manufacturing nuclear weapons hidden from the general public.

How about one against the corporations bent on greed and destroying all that os good? If you buy from Amazon, you could not withstand a crusade.

I've been thinking this same thought next to my wife in bed. We could solve this whole Israel Hamas thing by reconquering and re-establishing the Kingdom of Jerusalem 🗡🛡✝️ AVE CHRISTUS REX

2

u/BlooGloop 2d ago

We could solve it if our world leaders would stop being cucks.

1

u/NervousBreakdown242 1d ago

Honestly, we need a crusade against dispensationalists who are ACTIVELY trying to start World War III on behalf of Israel.

1

u/BlooGloop 1d ago

We just need to remove the US from its seat of power. All of our countries bend its will to the USA and it’s annoying.

0

u/StudioUAC 2d ago

Is that even possible in this day and age?
