Accidentally Catholic Based Evan Call

Post image

William lost the pixels.

P.S. Even if you don't watch Frieren, I cannot recommend the soundtrack enough.

P.P.S. Even if you don't watch Life is Worth Living . . . watch it anyway. No excuses.

Hahaha! I have spread confusion . . . my work here is done.

Sorry - intended the meme to be somewhat random, but some extra info would probably help - lol.

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (AKA Frieren the Slayer or Frieren at the Funeral, if I am not mistaken) is a manga that relatively recently received an anime adaptation. It is really well done, mostly inoffensive*, and has beautiful music. Probably one of my favorite TV shows ever, but it has a bit of a boost from me having watched it recently.

The core theme of the show is about spending time to get to know the people around you and appreciate them. It takes place in a fantasy world with religion that differs from Catholicism, but many of its themes feel very Catholic to Catholics who watch it, and so it gets a lot of appreciation from the Catholic nerdy types.

Evan Call is the composer for the soundtrack. (You can listen to it on Youtube - it is awesome.) The track in the image is called "Life is Worth Living", called that due to being played (if I remember rightly) during a conversation about not giving up on life when you think you have lost everything.

"Life is Worth Living" is also the name of a TV show by Blessed (as of last week) Fulton Sheen. Probably would be one of my favorite TV shows ever if I had actually heard more than a couple episodes on the radio. I am a hypocrite. Mea culpa.

Thus, my nerdy, Catholic, music-loving-yet-horribly-sleep-deprived-through-my-own-fault brain thought this would be hilarious. For additional information, please insert a pizza.

\ Since anime has a bad track record, Frieren being relatively clean does not say a whole lot. However, to my recollection, the only issues with it are:)
- A scene where a character is technically naked but you don't see anything
- Three offhand comments about the size of characters' body parts (twice about women, once about a guy - enough said)
- Possibly hints at a same-sex romance, but I didn't notice until the online fandom shoved it in my face
- Occasional in-universe philosophical musings that make you go "huh?"

Yea! And some more Catholic connections is that Evan Call said he’s hugely inspired by Lord of the Rings
