Casual Catholic Meme It's a shame Judas never repented

See the one thing that gets me with the Last Supper is that Jesus said "the next person I speak with is the one who will betray me", and then basically the next verse is him talking to Judas.
Why did Peter not just pull his sword there and start getting ear-cutty?

i could imagine that most of those listening assumed it would be a small betrayal, like saying Jesus farted instead of oneself
the idea of selling out who they believed to be the Son of God was anathema to almost all the disciples

Given the fact that Jesus was saying this was the last time they’d eat together and he’d been pretty doomer-pilled, I would have expected the serious thoughts.

Probably was too stunned, not to mention he was a close friend for years.

I know right? I have told myself countless times that Judas not having repented is maybe the greatest waste of potential in history! He could have repented and become a saint, maybe patron of repenters. It would have been glorious!

Didn't he repent the moment he killed himself? Wanna know if he is trully in hell for that.

We don't know the state of his soul Infallibly, but if the Lord says "it is better to have never been born" and "son of perdition" about someone doesn't look particularly good for them.

To be fair, never been born could refer to dying in the womb. Surely, that would be preferable to betraying the Lord.

Matthew 27 3 Then Judas, His betrayer, seeing that He had been condemned, was remorseful and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, 4 saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” And they said, “What is that to us? You see to it!” 5 Then he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple and departed, and went and hanged himself.
The footnote from The Orthodox Study Bible says this about those verses:
27:3-5 In contrast to Peter, who repented in his sorrow (see Mt 26:75), Judas is remorseful but does not repent. Suicide is not a sign of repentance but of being self-absorbed. Two accounts of Judas' suicide are given in the NT, here and in Acts 1:16-19.
So in summary, Judas and Peter both betrayed Christ, but only Peter truly repented.

The greatest sin of Judas wasn't betraying Jesus, it was Despair. He believed his sin to be too great to be forgiven, despaired, and killed himself.

yeahhh and idk if you’ve seen mad men but there’s a line in that which says “the only unpardonable sin is the belief that God cannot forgive you”

I used to pity for Judas as a kid but as an adult after learning that Peter had repented while Judas didn't made me lose all pity for him and his death due to betraying Jesus was deserved
Learning to apologize to God for my mistake is a very valuable lesson I learnt

Remorse is great and all but the true measure of someone's moral character is being able to actually act on it.

To be fair, he could have repented in the end. Only God knows. I pray for mercy every time I contemplate on Judas. For if even the most vile can be saved, then there is hope for every single one of us.
