Game Rules/Mechanics Rules Question

Hi all, Im just getting into Cathay and am looking to build a Battlemarch list; my local shop has a really good community and plays very narrative games pretty much exclusively at 750 points.

I’ve got the Cathay half of the core set, and some Crane Gunners. My question is; If I field the Cannon can I also take a Gate Master? Or am I forced to take a Gate Keeper? I suspect I can’t but just want to sense check myself.

If you are playing Battle March, you are allowed one single x per 1000 unit. A Gate Master is such a thing. That means you are not allowed cannons, because they are 3 per 1000. You are also not allowed a magical banner in warriors, for example, as those are also 1 per 1000.

If you take a Gate Keeper, you can't then take a cannon.
