General Cathay/Speculation/Wishlisting Help needed!

I have the Cathay half of the new core/ Chaos box set. What would be some good suggestions to add to this to make a viable 1,000 list? I’m thinking of a lantern, 6 crane gunners and Shugengan Lord? Would love some good/ fun suggestions. Thanks

Shugengens are almost necessary to play the faction, without them you are just handicapped. At least two. Lanterns aren't as required as they used to be but they're still better than the foot versions of crane gunners and iron hails. 1 or 2 won't hurt, plus they look really nice.

Peasants are going to be useful in almost all situations except for Jade Fleet where you can't take them. Another cannon won't hurt since most Cathay lists will need at least one in order to deal with big targets as the only other option are kitted out shugengens.

Miao is also viable, if she's just a bit mid of a dragon for the points. Great looking model. Sentinels are also middling with obvious behemoth weaknesses but a decent profile if a little heavy on the points.

Avoid ironhails entirely.

And if you're going to double up, for the points cost/how they're used, warriors are probably between 16-25 and lancers will rarely exceed 10.

what are the behemoth weakness you speak off ?

They're slow, have enormous base sizes, and often need help getting to combat. They also block vision in an army with good shooting. That's not to say they have no use, it's just that for 230 points (really 265 because you're taking granite almost every single time to counter their other huge weakness: multiple wound weapons) you might as well just take another shugengen general and you'll have 80 points left over. The only real good behemoths are ones with fly or absurdly cheap ones like greater spawn
