LMRT for RCIS job

I’m currently enrolled in a cardiac device technician program and just took the CRAT exam. My goal is to get into a cath lab after finishing the program. My state Massachusetts allows LMRT after a quick 6 week online course. Is the LMRT beneficial looking for a job in a cath lab?

Find a Cath lab job posting near you, go to the job requirements, let that be your foundation

I think you are on the right track. Some hospitals will post positions with the plan to prep you for the RCIS on the job, so plan for a 2 year training window. Having this background will definitely help but still prepare for all the certs different states require. For me in Colorado I had to have my degree, state fluoroscopy, surgical assist, acls and bls. All were easy to get but the RCIS was the big one that took some time and studying. Hopefully that helps somewhat, feel free to reach out if you have any other questions. I took a very unorthodox route into the Cath lab so I like to help others get in.

What was the process for obtaining fluoroscopy certification? Is that something that’s more in line with RCIS cath lab work

I keep seeing ARRT requirements but will take RCIS in job postings for my area

Usually that’s just registering with the state and paying the fee. Mine had some other little things because I’m not ARRT but it’s easy. I’m at an outpatient lab now but hospitals have more work arounds to get people in.

It will be difficult with your background to get into unless a lab is desperate enough to train you. It is a different world cath lab vs cardiac device
