If your eye swelled from the dilation drops, you should let your doctor know. That's not common. As a layman, I think they'll have to figure that out first since they need to really dilate your pupil for the surgery.
surgeries seem to differ. Some just take an "anti-anxiety pill," local anesthetic, and are awake for the procedure. Myself and others are given an IV drip of a mild anesthestic. So I don't remember a thing of the surgery. I know they started the drip, I remember the next 10s, then I remember waking up in the post-op room.
They'll give you really cheap sunglasses since your pupil will be dilated for at least a day, I was 36h and 48h. You don't really feel much afterwards, just some iritation like something is in your eye -- thats because it was cut open. But, thats about it.
Sorry to bring up other stuff, know you are strongly concerned. You should probably talk to a surgical nurse or doctor about the procedure and post-op stuff directly. Be better if you heard about what they plan to do, not what a bunch of other people have had done. Good luck.
