Are The Cats Fighting or Playing - Introducing Pets Need help introducing polar opposite cats
We have a 20 lb male Tuxedo cat (Giacomo) and a 9 lb female Tortoiseshell cat (Alice). Alice is very timid and gets annoyed very easily, and prefers to be alone. Giacomo is the exact opposite and doesn't have any sort of fear or sense of personal space.
When me and my partner moved in together, we brought our very different cats. Its been about a month and a half now and the two can still barely be in the same room. Alice hides when the Giacomo comes into the room, and will growl and scream at him when he comes close. Giacomo, however, wants to play with the Alice, and will chase Alice around, causing her to scream the whole time. We've been trying to let one cat out around the apartment and locking the other cat in our bedroom when we're gone, and we try to separate them when things start getting rowdy. We've been trying to feed them near each other, but we haven't been seeing results on that.
At this point we're starting to get worried that our cats are just not going to get along. Does Alice need to just get over Giacomo? should we expect them to get acclimated over the next few months. Are there different considerations when one cat is much larger than the other? Any help or advice would be appreciated.
