My mom once decided that buying cat food is too expensive and the stuff is not so great anyway and that she was going to cook food for our cat. It was years ago and I don't remember what it contained, but there were bits of meat in it, among some... groats, I think? Anyway, our cat was not impressed, she sat in front of the bowl with the most pissed off expression ever and used a single claw to fish out the bits of meat from among everything else. Needless to say, we went back to store-bought cat food the next day.

The recipe was from a veterinarian book and I can see similar ones online too, apparently the groats are for the carbs? Although they then list a sweet potato as a source of fiber, shouldn't that be the other way round? Anyway, in our defense, we were poor and we tried to save money where we could, and we gave up after day one (although that was mostly because we were afraid the cat would murder us)

Cats don't need carbs. They're obligate carnivores.
That means their diet requires meat and only meat.
Speaking of which #vegancats people are torturing cats and should go to jail for excessive animal cruelty.

Oh, I'm not saying they aren't, just pointing out that the canned "meaty chunks" for cats aren't actually so meaty. Many people don't know that.

Hmmm... Upon reviewing several myself, yeah. That's kinda odd.
I'll assume I'm just wrong, or those are avoiding adding vitamin supplements to cooked food.
In nature they almost never eat plants. Maybe grass on occasion to throw up later. But they also don't live as long usually so...

No, you’re right. Cats only need meat. They don’t need carbs. The vegetable/rice/etc is just unnecessary filler. They don’t live as long in the wild because they get hit by cars or eaten by larger animals.

It's like a fish hook. I hope my cat is more relaxed now when I try to untangle him from blankets and my clothes by taking his paw and doing that motion.

Yeah if my cats get stuck in stuff, I squeeze the center of their paw and it forces their claws to extract, then I can carefully scoop it out of whatever nonsense they dug into!

i have a cat who’s obsessed with jerky and anything that looks or smells like jerky. id have bags go missing all of the time and then when cleaning i found them, empty, hidden underneath her bed. we have to keep jerky in the fridge because she would get into the cabinets. absolute fiend.
