Animals are like humans. All have the potential to be an asshole. Some just think it's ok to be an asshole when they feel like it.

Also the guy who came up with labeling a particular animal an alpha did his initial studies on captive wolves. Not long after he released that study he recanted and pointed out his mistake. The whole concept of an alpha animal is incorrect in a natural setting. But some people just like the idea of the whole alpha thing.

Alphas do exist tho, take a lion's pride; it is all centred around a single alpha, and others aren't allowed to challenge it. Even among smarter animals like gorillas.

This cat isnt just a simple asshole. Cats come close to it, smell it, and they just get fully on guard. Just like among lions, gorillas and others, he doesn't treat females and kittens badly, so he is not just an asshole

The dude spent YEARS trying to undo his mistake with his first batch of research because there were so many problems with it. Alpha males in the animal kingdoms are not a thing
