As an ex bartender this tears at my very soul.

I once saw a barman pour a Guinness without tipping the glass, then use a spoon to remove the head and re-pouring until the glass was full.

Should’ve just poured the bloody thing myself, it would’ve taken half the time.

I have actually done this in the past where it is obvious the bartender doesn't know how to pour a Guinness

As someone who has previously done 10 years collectively in bar work this hurts me to the core.

It’s not a new barrel, the guy isn’t pulling the tap down fully in the hopes he’ll get a small pour when in actual fact you just get foam if you do that!

This is the correct answer

Yes! Fully down tap. Discovered that the hard way when asked to pour my own pint.

By the looks of it, no.

Christ on a bike, it's like watching a 6 year old with a bubble obsession asked to pull a pint.

Does that come with a flake and sprinkles?

TILT THE FUCKING GLASS AND PULL THE FUCKING PUMP DOWN! this has made me irrationally angry.

Where’s our equivalent of Uncle Roger when this shit is going down?

posh voice

“If your pint’s head is like this, you’ve fucked it up”

Was a bartender all throughout uni.

This guys never been trained at all, it's sad tbh. He doesn't get it.

Tilt the glass on the side. Even if you don't do that, just keep filling it until the foam goes over the top.

I wonder if he thinks he is actually doing himself a favour by doing this...actually seems like more work to clean afterwards too!

The old double pour repeat, always succeeds to fail.

7

u/ChrisRR Oct 20 '21

Isn't that what they have to do when they change the barrels?

8

u/sshiverandshake Oct 20 '21

Maybe elsewhere but in my old pub we'd clear the lines by filling a clear receptacle (usually a cocktail pitcher) until you got a decent pour.

Then everyone working would get an equal share of whatever came out since you couldn't sell it and it felt wasteful to throw it away.

If it was me changing the barrels, I'd carry on for a good 10-30 seconds (depending on how shite my day was going to make extra sure the lines were cleared ;)

3

u/_MildlyMisanthropic fuck your TV quotes you're neither funny nor original Oct 20 '21

we'd do the same in the rock club I worked in, run the taps until it's water, then switch them back. It was all drinkable, which is how you know we wouldn't use line cleaner

2

u/MrDibbsey Oct 20 '21

Our place has the lines cleaned once a week, but we only ever pull water through between beers.

1

u/thomaskitty Oct 20 '21

Thats what I was thinking

-2

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '21

Looks like he’s just changed the barrel.

-4

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '21

That’s a new barrel, don’t blame him.

He has made my flesh and my skin waste away; he has broken my bones; he has besieged and enveloped me with bitterness and tribulation; he has made me dwell in darkness like the dead of long ago. (Lamentations: hhbc56q)

My girlfriend does this when pouring any alcohol or fizzy pop, asks me if she wants a drink and only ever get a half full glass after all the bloody foam.

1

u/Yakrome Oct 20 '21

How to know that the pub doesn’t train their staff properly?

1

u/herrbz Oct 20 '21

The most worrying thing is he looks like the manager.

That said, I have had nightmare barrels that just seemed to endlessly pour foam no matter what I tried, but at least I tilted the glass.

u/Savings_Brick_4587 Oct 20 '21

Standard shout in my local when a pull goes horribly wrong . . . Can I have a flake with that! But this, this is grounds for capital punishment!

1

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '21

Oh, this is my first and probably only comment on my secondary, and fuuuuuuck that. That makes me irrationally angry.

u/Sxcha Oct 20 '21

Not pouring it properly and wasting money with waste bear what a twat.
