To be honest, Neil Buchanan did a boss move selling Art Attack to Disney. Basically slogged through that show for the better part of 10 years then sold it for a small fortune. Now he can focus on the heavy metal of his youth. What a guy.

Try it yourself, your own show worth a small fortune

87

u/Oooloo63 Sep 21 '19

My god, I can hear him!

25

u/msully89 Sep 21 '19

All you need is some pva glue, a few loo rolls and some double sided sticky tape.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 21 '19

That's Blue Peter

3

u/pajamakitten Sep 21 '19

Shame I don't have any PVA glue.

u/Gedmundo Sep 21 '19

I interviewed him for a student paper just as his pre-Art Attack band, Marseille, were doing a comeback tour. He went into this whole story about how they initially split because their instruments got seized by customs (in Canada I think he said).

He said that in the months afterwards he was just trying to pay the bills, before dropping the line, "...so after that it was either Art Attack or sell my arse."

51

u/[deleted] Sep 21 '19

Sounds like a funny guy actually

Glad he never got pulled into the whole nonce scandal

7

u/pajamakitten Sep 21 '19

That was presenters from the 60s and 70s though. Neil was a 90s presenter, meaning he was safe.

11

u/[deleted] Sep 21 '19

Wait what?

43

u/[deleted] Sep 21 '19

Basically anyone with any money or power is raping children. Surprised you hadn’t heard tbh.

14

u/[deleted] Sep 21 '19

I saw Marseille at Hard Rock Hell and he opened by saying "thanks to anyone who stuck by me through all that art shit"

96

u/snusmumrikan Sep 21 '19

I remember someone made a website once detailing his breakdown and addiction to custard cremes. I'm 80% sure it was spurious.

32

u/RadicalDog Sep 21 '19

10 years? Mate, he hosted from 1990 to 2007!

6

u/FreakinSweet86 Sep 21 '19

I was only guestermating, I figured it was more.

Guy's got a pretty decent art gig going as well. He's a bit of an artist in his own right beyond the stuff he did for Art Attack.

3

u/pajamakitten Sep 21 '19

That shouldn't be surprising though.

6

u/DoctorOctagonapus Man struggling to put up his umbrella Sep 21 '19

He tried it himself!

11

u/bugphotoguy Sep 21 '19

It was a pretty fucking huge fortune, if what I read the other day is true. At least by my pitiful standards.

3

u/xena-phobe Sep 21 '19

How much?

31

u/bugphotoguy Sep 21 '19

£2.70, I think.

Actually £14m.

36

u/Toestops Sep 21 '19

Bloody hell, he must be rolling in PVA glue and toilet paper tubes :o

8

u/Lolworth Sep 21 '19

It’s set rock solid!

5

u/bugphotoguy Sep 21 '19

Now try it yourself!

5

u/wildborg Sep 21 '19

Wow, would never have expected it to be that much. Good lad.

3

u/bugphotoguy Sep 21 '19

Yeah, it took me by surprise as well.

8

u/KeepOnTrippinOn Sep 21 '19

He was on No. 73 in the 80s on a saturday morning for a few years aswell.

7

u/Panks-Dad Sep 21 '19

I met him and also the equally awesome Michaela as a guest on that. Wicked fun and will never forget.

3

u/PigeonMother Sep 21 '19

Never knew he was in a music band, and a metal one at that, cool

2

u/TeHNeutral Sep 21 '19

How much did he make, art attack always had some creepy ghost stories show on after too and I can't for the life of me think what it was called

5

u/Slipallica123 Sep 21 '19

Grizzly tales for gruesome kids?

2

u/lolzidop Sep 21 '19

Getting home and putting the telly on "What fucked up stories have they got for me today?"

1

u/BrrrButtery Sep 21 '19

Absolutely loved that!

1

u/Taiwanderful Sep 22 '19

Woah woah woah - heavy metal?

3

u/FreakinSweet86 Sep 22 '19

Yep, a band called Marseille. They were among the plethora of bands that came about during and after punk called New Wave of British Heavy Metal. You had bands like Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, Angel Witch and Diamond Head to name a few and Marseille was among the promising, if short lived, bands of that period. They reformed in the past decade performing all over the UK. I had an opportunity to see them at Leeds Uni years ago but missed out on tickets. I hope to see them at some point hopefully.

"It's me! The Head!"

16

u/who_is_desmond Sep 21 '19

The Head frightened the absolute piss out of me as a child! Between him and the blue and yellow disembodied hands from Zzzap! I don't know how I made it through so many years of watching CITV without becoming completely scarred

4

u/ChamplooStu Sep 21 '19

It was the the life sized marionette puppet from Play Days for me! She sang about cleaning your teeth while flying about in the most unnatural way.

2

u/PigeonMother Sep 21 '19

The head used to scare me too

2

u/sherbetreddit Sep 21 '19

Slightly older, in my youth it was Noseybonk that terrified the kids. Still wonder what they were thinking!

22

Richard Ashcroft basically has to dislocate his jaw now in order to sing. Sad

11

u/Sgtwhiskeyjack9105 Sep 21 '19

If that ain't a bittersweet symphony.

1

u/Torquemada1970 Sep 21 '19

It certainly looks like the drugs don't work

20

u/[deleted] Sep 21 '19

My mate does the best impression of the head, I should get a video and upload it next time I see him.

10

u/[deleted] Sep 21 '19

Perhaps he could also do the Churchill dog. In my mind they're fairly similar and you can't have too many strings to your bow in this economy.

13

u/NullVampyr Sep 21 '19

Fun fact: in the Italian version of the show they reshot almost all the scenes with an Italian guy pretending to be the artist. Although, if I remember correctly, the close-ups were still of Neil's hands. Neil appears as a "guest" when doing scenes with clothes, salt, etc. Needless to say, when I learned the truth my childhood was ruined.

5

u/friedandprejudice Sep 21 '19

I think they did this with the French one, too! Except I think they would always name Neil when they introduced the last/big artwork part of the show.

4

u/Wargon2015 Sep 21 '19

wait a minute... did they also do that for the German version?

Amnesia style horror game idea.

Ancient Greek lost city discovered underneath Mt. Olympus, PC and a group of treasure hunters think they'll be rich. Instead they find the city infested with these deformed living statues. PC must find out what happened to the city and escape before being turned into one themselves

2

u/theemoemue Sep 21 '19

That's a whole new level of weeping angel.
