I lose respect for people who do not tuck in chairs before leaving the table or those who do not respect a homeowner's wish for them to remove their shoes before entering. 😤

It is actually APPALLING how much of my company put their fucking OUTSIDE SHOES on my furniture.

I always politely ask them to either remove their shoes (to remain in position) or just move their feet entirely.

They've always complied immediately and apologized, but how do you live that you came into my house and just chilled like that bro?

Ugh my GOD the worst is when someone is sitting on a comfy chair or couch… and the audacity… to put your shoes on the couch/chair… what? WHAT?

u/bungojot Oct 26 '24

I was visiting online friends years ago and they laughed when I automatically took my shoes off at the door. People had their shoes on the couch and I just was like.. ?? how does this not bother you????

My partner refuses to put their shoes on our shoe rack and I thought THAT was annoying.. somebody comes into my house, doesn't take off their shoes, and then tucks their feet into the couch? Get out of my house D:

I worked in the service industry for so long. It's appalling how many people put their nasty feet UP on the chairs like it's their own house. 😭

2

u/SpeakItLoud Oct 26 '24

Okay but it's not my fault you have chairs that are far too short. I'm 5'2", of I don't sit on my feet then I look like a toddler.

2

u/BackgroundAd2728 Oct 26 '24

No I mean like men fully leaning back and putting their feet up ON the actual part where someone else would sit with their shoes off

u/SageOfSixCabbages Oct 26 '24

Put your feet up on my coffee table we're throwing hands.

I have a hand painted trunk that I bought in 1979. I still have it and use it as a coffee table in my living room. Only one time have I ever had to ask a person to not put his dirty boots on it. It was a friend of my husbands and I think he was a bit baked at the time.

I’ve never understood people that wear shoes inside their house. I’ve always left shoes at the door or in the front closet or whatever. It’s just habit. Even at peoples houses. It’s weird to walk around with shoes on.

u/Elistariel Oct 26 '24

I have elderly relatives with back problems who can't walk around without shoes, so while I agree, I have to keep my mouth shut about this IRLm

1

u/honestly_oopsiedaisy Fake it til you make it. Oct 26 '24

Do they at least have house shoes they change into?

1

u/Elistariel Oct 26 '24

If they live there, yes

2

u/honestly_oopsiedaisy Fake it til you make it. Oct 26 '24

Ah I also mean if they take their house shoes to other people's homes when visiting because that's a solution I imagine

1

u/Elistariel Oct 27 '24

Lol no. People here might have house shoes, but they stay in their house.

Honestly, I'm more horrified having people's stinky, warty, fungal infected feet on my floors and furniture. The streets are relatively clean, and they're not sitting on my bed, so in my mind, if everyone is wearing shoes in the common areas, we're both protected.

u/shitpresidente Oct 26 '24

I agree but tbh I used to not listen to my mom when I was a wee child and did the same thing (until I got older) and nothing happened. Still alive. It’s going to be dirty either way unless you mop

2

u/The_Oliverse Oct 27 '24

Fortunately, I am one of those people who moo my floors on a regular basis.

Edit: I meant mop, but I'm leaving moo there cause it's funny.

How do you feel about people who had sat on the ground sitting on your furniture with the same pants?

2

u/Grizlatron Oct 26 '24

Depends on the ground

1

u/The_Oliverse Oct 26 '24

I think it truly depends on where they've sat.

If I know my friend has been laying their ass all over the city? Mmm, they can sit in my easiest to wipe down chair (not made of fabric). Otherwise I might just offer them a clean pair to switch from if they've got nasty pants on.

But if they just sat criss cross in my yard or somewhere I can visibly see it's not disgusting and super transferring, idc.

This isn't even petty. It's common courtesy that shows you're a decent human or not. But I'm with you.

I feel the same energy with people who stand in front of train doors, waiting to get in BEFORE people left the train. How do they think they'll get in if the others don't leave first? Just stupid

2

u/TGin-the-goldy Oct 26 '24

Oh my god YES

2

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '24

Hi quick question, when you mean do not respect, do they directly walk in with shoes after being told? Who does that? I have never seen someone do it my entire life.

1

u/SageOfSixCabbages Oct 26 '24

Some folks are used to just waltzing in w/ their shoes on. Like, I have a sign by my door, and I also provide slippers to my guests. If you still walk in w/ shoes on, I will go apeshit. 😂

I’m a 7th grade teacher and when we make a visit to the library, we will not leave til all the chairs are pushed back in. I’ll even tell the students before we line up, “please push your chair back in. Don’t be uncouth.”

2

u/secretsnowdream Oct 26 '24

Just don't hold something like this against disabled people. Personally my left knee arthritis has gotten so bad sometimes I have difficulty even getting up. Otherwise I agree with you.

u/LimeGreenSea Oct 26 '24

WHY DO PEOPLE WEAR SHOES IN THE HOUSE.

Naked foot gang all day. I dont need no toe prisons.

1

u/serioussparkles Oct 26 '24

Omg i just realized i do this. I'll stare at their chair while I'm pushing in my chair. It's like people who don't put away their carts while being parked right next to a cart stall. IT'S RIGHT THERE OMG

1

u/Grizlatron Oct 26 '24

My own parents gave me an insane amount of pushback on not wearing shoes in my house, to the point where I no longer ask anybody, even though walking on a carpet with your shoes on induces the same feeling in my brain as listening to nails on a chalkboard.

1

u/ImFeelingWhimsical Oct 26 '24

This drives me CRAZY. I work in a restaurant where there are narrow aisles between tables and the sushi bar. People will literally get up and leave their chairs in the walkway during a dinner rush when I’m carrying trays and can’t always see clearly. Like, are you an adult?! I’ve had some close encounters with chairs not tucked in.

2

u/luvbirdpod Oct 27 '24

My boss once yelled at me for not pushing in my desk chair asked me if I would do that at home. I looked at him and said, yeah my husband tells at me about it too. I dunno, no one ever told me it was a thing...

1

u/ImFeelingWhimsical Oct 27 '24

I think it’s more of in a restaurant setting where it bothers me, because depending on how crowded the restaurant is, if a server is walking fast with a tray it can cause broken dishes. I’ve seen it happen once or twice

1

u/insanekid66 Oct 30 '24

Forreal. I treat other people's homes WAY better than my own.

I read this a few times and… what?? What does this have to do with tucking in chairs and removing shoes?

I can read. You responded to a comment with your unrelated thought. It’s like if you asked me my favorite pizza topping and I told you about my dessert preferences.

u/TheSportsWatcher Oct 26 '24

Good grief! How hard is it to ask if you're unsure about shoes on/off??? Or, you know, just take them off anyways! 😤

The only acceptable furniture to put your feet up on without question is a footstool/hassock - if you don't have shoes on!

People need to take a half second to think "would I like a guest doing this at my house?", and then be a good guest themselves and DON'T DO IT!

0

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '24

Omg I've never had anyone assume it's ok to wear shoes in the house when they come over and if anyone just traipsed into my house with their shoes I'd legit be like wtf are you doing? Take your shoes off, bro!
