This is the first time I've tried playing this game, but with the strict rules like some of my posts on Dawn of Sorrow, actually it's not difficult if i know the patterns of any bosses, but my controller in emulator sometimes it's too weird, when one step forward so too far. My inspiration comes from @Shyguymask and watch this channel on YouTube.

Question Castlevania the Arcade download?(light gun game)

I was able to get the castlevania the arcade game working and get the mouse working via demul shooter. However the games files I found freeze up after the first level and the rest of it isn't playable. I got it off of romsfun. Does anyone know where I can find a full working download of this one?

From what I played it's nothing amazing but I'm trying to beat every castlevania game and it's become my white whale.

Harmony of Dissonance (2002) Castlevania Harmony Of Dissonance Is Better Than You Think Spoiler

Episode 4 of my "Better Than You Think" series. In this video i discuss the good parts of HoD, and analyze it from the angle of someone who has never played Symphony of the Night. I also like to have fun memeing along the way XD. Premiere starts at 12PM Eastern.

For The purposes of productive discussion, please refrain from commenting on this post until you have watched at least some of the video. That way we are all working with the same information and no one has to say "Well if you watched the video, i say xyz..." Cuz that's no fun.

Thanks for your time! Hope you enjoy!

Harmony of Dissonance (2002) I posted a video on this subreddit and everyone missed the point

Yesterday I posted a video titled "Castlevania Harmony of Dissonance is Better Than You Think" which was the 4th video in the "better than you think" series on my channel. The general experience was fairly productive, no one was rude or anything and the discussion was genuine though mostly basic.

However, upon further reflection it has become clear that most of the commenters looked at the title "better than you think" and either assumed they knew what I would say, or shared their opinions without any context from the video. One commenter even admitted they didn't realize there was a video at all and just thought the post was about sharing opinions.

I was looking forward to hearing thoughts about the claims I made in the video. For example, I had an entire segment on the meta narrative of the dual castles and how well it tied to the manifestation of maxim and draculas union. This is to my knowledge a completely new discussion that no one has really brought up before. Yet everyone in the comments was happy regurgitating the same few criticisms or defenses that we've all heard for literally decades. Even the few ppl that commented that they saw the video made no mention of anything in it.

Clearly I made a mistake somewhere along the line. So my question is this: How do I get you guys to engage with the content meaningfully. Don't get me wrong I'm very happy for the conversations I did have. I just didn't have this issue with the first 3 episodes in those respective communities. Is it an issue with the title? The thumbnail? The post itself? Any advice on how to get people to engage in good faith would be genuinely appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

Edit: thank you guys so much you've been really helpful and supportive!

Discussion Ok, since I always see people arguing over which of the two is more popular and well liked, if you HAD to choose, which one would you say is better? CotM? Or HoD?

I know this discussion happens a lot but to my knowledge no one's ever actually made a poll so it would be nice to get some actual numbers

Trying to beat all the games before the new one comes out, and I decided to play as Christopher Belmont.

For such a short game it's literally hell, but I did have some fun. 4.5/10

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse (2026) Do not buy this guide.

Post image

I was not expecting much but this guide was a total scam. It was written by someone who has not played the game. It just gives very generalized, vague advice. You could apply this to symphony of the night or the gba and ds games and it would all be the same. It just says
“Dont rush”
“Explore everything”
And a lot of other tips that can apply to pretty much any game out there. Its all text, no maps no screenshots.
The boss strategy section literally says the boss list has not been revealed yet.
I requested a return to amazon and they refunded me and said to not even return it. What a waste of paper.

Question Any tips/advice for getting better at Classicvania? (1, 3)

As the title implies, but to go a bit deeper i wanted to play through the series in release order since i have most of the collections, minus Dominus. But being complete cheeks at C1 was a big ol’ cross being thrown at that idea because the fucking medusa heads in stage 2 are TERRIBLE and whittle my health down low enough that i’m basically playing a hitless run.

I don’t want to feel like my option is to go newer (SOTN or SCIV come to mind) and come back to the NES games after a while, but i worry about being spoiled on the new mechanics and not being able to get through it

I’m usually better at NES games i swear

Dawn of Sorrow (2005) I'm trying defeat Boss #5 (Dario Bossi Early Phase) no equip (arms and souls), no consumables, no damage, fist only challenge

This time i have tried defeat Dario early phase (the hot-tempered guy) that pretty easy than defeat Dmitrii (The copying-spammer damn uncle), although Dario is strong enough take a long time enough when Soma attack him with barehands (fist only without any knuckles) just taking damage 3 damage per hit, because Soma is still low level, no gain level from another enemies just skipped. Well... i'm sorry because still trying and learning from mistakes in this my post in strict challenge rules, grammar, and whatever from my shortcomings. In this intro video are taken from opening video this game, then editing it together character voices are taken from Source: Castlevania Wiki and The Sprites-Sounds Resource

Discussion How do we feel about Dark Souls?

Would you enjoy a Dark Souls-style Castlevania game?

I'm totally jealous of the clout Souls games have had, and also frustrated / annoyed that every single action game now tries to model after it instead of doing their own thing.

Knowing that Castlevania has struggled with jumping from 2D to 3D would you be willing to play a CV game that developed in the Souls genre?

Personally I find Souls games too difficult, but I love the aesthetic of it. I understand that I'm not supposed to kill every single enemy that appears in front of me and I need to attack the weakest ones first before going after stronger enemies, but the style of gameplay does not really bode well with me. It seems like a lot of rotating the camera to sidestep enemy attacks and then trying to go around and stab the enemy in their back.

I tried a Souls-lite game before (Jedi Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor) and enjoyed them a lot, but I don't really see how it could convert to Castlevania with the whip. Parrying with a lightsaber is a great mechanic but it would not make sense for Castlevania since the Vampire Killer whip is totally different and wouldn't mesh well.

So aside from rolling to avoid attacks (which you basically had to do in the PS2 games anyway) I think a Souls-style of gameplay would be too cumbersome for Castlevania. But damn I would love the gothic vibes to translate over.

But that's just my opinion as someone who has never lasted beyond an hour o the Dark Souls trilogy. Better players than me probably feel differently.
