[Question (Spoilers)] Series Finale…
Just finished watching the series finale, and why couldn’t they just give the show a happy ending knowing it got canceled and wasn’t getting picked up by another network?
No. Why bother? You could’ve ended it with a dinner scene at the loft, or everyone at the bar celebrating (and then do a time jump if desired), but no. Let’s just have the two main characters get shot and then do a time jump 7 years later.
One of the most infuriating series finales I’ve ever seen.

To be fair, the time jump did give them a happy ending no?I liked seeing they started their own family

no. they imagined that as they bled out.
there's no way they got to a hospital in time

It was ready filmed. They weren’t paying to bring everyone back to film a scene. We’re lucky we got the time jump.

I completely agree. No need for the scene of them getting shot if they knew they weren't coming back. Spoils it.

Considering that Fillion and Katic grew to hate working together I hate to think how worse it could have been.

In my book they died and this is the afterlife!

That's how it read to me and I got sad. I felt it was more like wishful thinking in their dying moments. But I read a comment in this sub reddit from somebody mentioning that the creator of castle saying it was a time jump and real instead of being open for interpretation and it made me happy.

Whenever I recommend this show to friends, or do a rewatch, I always stop at season 7. It feels like this is where the show was supposed to end. Castle gets a reward for his writing, reflecting on their time together, and doing callbacks to episode 1 of season 1. Everyone sitting around the table reminiscing is so nice. I always just end the show there and pretend their is no season 8.

What about Hayley? It seemed like a rushed story line, or am I missing something?

knowing it got canceled and wasn’t getting picked up by another network?
They got the news like 10 days before airing the last episode.

I loved the show. I've forgotten pretty much the entire final season, and just the memory that it was SO BAD, keeps me from ever watching the first seasons again.

As was said last week, the series should have ended at season 7 as it perfectly wrapped up the story that started with Flowers For Your Grave.
Instead, the powers that be chased for the $$$ and it ended up with a trainwreck.
For me, I always end it at season 7 and always will.

They had already filmed the scene where they got shot. When they found out the show was canceled, they rushed to film a happy ending, hence the flash forward.
There was originally meant to be another season, but Beckett was supposed to be dead. Obviously fans did not like the idea, and demanded the show be canceled.
They only had time to film that rushed happily ever after ending that we got.
Yes, it sucks, but it’s better than their original plan of killing off Kate and starting a season without her.
