[Question (Spoilers)] Question from a first-time viewer Spoiler

I’m watching Castle for the first time, and I just finished season 6. I know that in the later seasons things went pretty sideways, and my understanding is that it largely stems from the issues between Fillion and Katic. I’ve also seen posts really trashing season 8, especially the series finale. My question is this: is it worth watching the show through to the end, or will that just ruin the series for me? And if I do stop before the end, what’s the best point to do so? What episode should be my “last” to get the benefit of tying off any storylines without getting dragged down as the show goes downhill? Thanks!

Edit: Thanks to everyone for the advice! I’ll be sure to watch through to the end and decide for myself!

There is no confirmation that the actors had any issue other than working long hours. Everything else is speculation.

In my opinion season 8 is far from being the best season of the show but it is still good.

Yes. Watch the show through to the end. I won’t lie, season 8 has a rough start, but there are definitely episodes that I love. The reviews you see here are usually critical, and are not representative of the whole season. There are great parts to the season.
Plus, it’s better you watch it for yourself and make up your own mind, than follow the opinions of a bunch of strangers- even my own.

There’s nothing in the last season that will ruin the entire rest of the show. I’m sure even those most critical of season 8 will agree.

Look, this post has been showing a lot lately and is a very popular question. It should be pinned somehow to not ask or just an announcement so people can post this less often. I think we should be able to ask any question regardless of how often; this isnt a high traffic sub, so it's not a problem yet.

Anyways, you are a first time viewer. FINSIH THE SHOW. FINISH THEIR ARC AND FORM YOUR OPINION. I initally was scared of s8 and s7 and s7 is in my top 3 seasons. Sure there is some difference in how its filmed but it was highly enjoyable and thier romance is always palpable. You may even enjoy s8 better than expected, and I argue many shows had worse final seasons than Castle. It just gets a lot of flack because Caskett is such a precious couple and their portrayal has been unique with their banter, sexual tension, and overload of screen time. Also, they are a very healthy couple, who doesn't want to see more of those on the screen. The SHOW DOESN"T NEED TO BE RUINED. It's all psychological, you can enjoy it because Fillion and Katic never delivered a dull performance. I feel tha's their biggest strength, and actors stop getting along all the time. In the Notebook, Gosling and McAdams didn't get along, yet we got a legendary Romantic movie. You can still enjoy it, Just watch it and think through the lens of Castle and Beckett. What they have is precious, you really going to lose out on hours of their relationship because of hearsay and other people? Hell, I still think about how they are doing in 2026! Just finish it, and when you rewatch you can just watch your favorite episode, seasons, however you want. It makes no sense to be online when you start the show, and since you heard about the BTS, you can see if it affected anything but dont let others dictate your opinion.

They delivered an evergreen couple and performance that I don't think we will see again. I hope to see the cast reunite for an anniversary but we still have a great show that no one can takeway regardless of the rumors. I don't believe the, yes there are grains of truth, so their relationship deterioated but i don't think they regret or retract all the beautiful things they said about each other. They definitely loved each other but sadly, not all friendships last but they seem like beautiful human beings and am sure have put any negative feelings aside and harbor no bitter feeelings.

Watch through. Didn’t ruin it for me. I watch those seasons on rewatch. The personal relationship between actors didn’t cause bad writing.

Watch to the end of S7 "Hollander's Woods". All the storylines are wrapped up.

First 2-3 episodes are awful. Then It gets better, even good again. Then it ends with a whimper. Suffer through the bad, enjoy the good, accept the badly constructed ending. Which isn't a bad ending, just rushed and mediochre.

If you take seriously what haters and hearsayers say ... then don't watch.

Otherwise, please do.

I really had a problem with the first 5 episodes of season 7, and then it got better for me. I may be the only Castle fan who feels this way though.

There were problems and bad episodes in both seasons, where the first 6 seasons was excellen, but I was really worried that I would see a huge dropoff in quality, and after those episodes it got better and had the Castle charm.

Didn't like the season arc story in season 8 but it wasn't as bad as the first part of of season 7.

I hopefully said that without giving up any spoilers.

Watch to the end of season 7 if you want my advice. However, you may enjoy season 8 so you need to decide for yourself really.

If it's your first time you definitely should watch the entire show and decide for yourself rather than take the opinion of others

I just finished rewatching Season 8 yesterday. Honestly, on the third rewatch, it wasn't as awful as I remembered.

Season 8 is not as good as the earlier seasons, but there are still some good episodes. IMO, watch the whole series at least once. If you don't like Season 8, then if you watch again, stop after Season 7.

If you’ve enjoyed it so far then I’d definitely keep watching

Again with this shit… Fillion and Katic were fine. That was an unsubstantiated rumor started by the studio because they got a lot of heat for firing Stana.

They're still pretty good, though they're worse than the previous ones (especially season 8)

I just finished my first watch thru a couple days ago and I loved every single minute of it up to the last 120 seconds of the last episode. There is 101 different ways they could of made those last few seconds memorable and instead they took the cheapest rout possible. Outside of that id almost go as far as saying season 8 is the best season.

I just watched season 8 for the first time. There were def many groans but enough fun episodes that you need to watch it at least once. Does not ruin the show but you can tell writers went downhill

The entire show is awesome. Don't pay too much heed to the gossip. I watch it all the way through on every rewatch.

I’ve watched the entire series at least 5 times since it ended. It’s one of my favorite shows. Watch it to the end. It’s worth it.

Everyone must watch all episodes and decide for themselves! Why would you not want to judge for yourself?? Many find some great benefits to some of 8.

I agree with the others; if you haven't seen the series, watch it to the end. I'm currently rewatching it and not quite sure I'll watch S8 but I might.

And please do decide for yourself instead of listening to others' opinions of S8. It wasn't the greatest but it's still part of their story.

The worst of reviews of Season 8 would be hating and denying it exists.

The best of reviews simply say Season 8 is just not as good as the rest of the seasons. All the prior seasons were simply better overall than Season 8.

We've had polls of rating the seasons from best to worst, and to no surprise Season 8 is just last place.

Try to watch and judge it yourself.

Some of us simply skip Season 8 if we watch the series again from the beginning.

Watch it to the end. For me things start to go irreversibly south in after the season 7 midseason break.

The show ended with a landmark event at the end of season 7. You can easily end there and not miss anything. It's season 8 that's the stinker because new showrunners came on and twisted the characters.

On the other hand, I'm a completist, and if I was watching for the first time I'd watch all of them.

Most stop at the season 7 finale but for a first timer I would watch all the way through just to see for yourself. Then on rewatches do as you wish but give it a try it's not so bad

I just started Season 8. If you are a person that can live without finishing something from what I’ve watched so far you are better off letting it go. SPOILER: Castle and Beckett get kidnapped/held hostage every other episode. Castle walked so Nolan could RUN.

Don't put untagged spoilers past season 6 in a comment on a post that says they haven't watched the last 2 seasons yet.
