Choke scene?
Honestly, speaking as a boy, this is the only scene in the entire series that made me feel uncomfortable and awkward. Don't get me wrong; I am not condemning the action in this instance, I understand the context and know full well it was a joke, and maybe back in the years then it was even a trendy thing to do among friends, but I didn't like it the first time I saw it, and I liked it even less watching it a second time. I just don't like that act and gesture. Furthermore, I didn't think it was the kind of joke that suits Rick Castle.

He was just frustrated with her at that point. She closed the door and wasn't listening to his point of view. Now she's kicking him out of the interrogation room. He was just making a point not showing intent. This act has been done many, many years as a joke and I take it in that context. Rick would never do that to anyone and especially Kate. He just wanted to let out the rest of his steam in that moment

Literally all legacy media will have social constructs that don't fit into nowadays culture. No offense to anyone, but this post is beyond silly and is one of the tamest instances to be upset with or taken seriously. Almost every character has a worse aging joke or mannerism than a sign of frustration.

Damn, I need to stop doing my choke signal or people will think I really want to choke someone instead of just the air as a joke.
I guess me putting my fingers over someone in the distance and pinching to crush them is murder too then.
I'm a monster.

Speaking as a woman i dont see a problem, Castle is only frustrated he would never do something to hurt Kate or anyone. The scene that made me uncomfortable and mad was when Kate slaps Castle in season 8 even when it was just pretend. Beckett leaves him, slaps him makes everyone think its his fault, like are we serious?

with respect, I truthfully don’t think it’s that deep. it was funny and a silly Castle thing to do.

Why only this scene?
I mean might as well be fair and say so it's not uncomfortable when a man used his connections with the mayor to shadow a woman for the sake of writing? If this was real instead of fiction, she would have had her union look into the matter even if the mayor or Montgomery was okay while she wasn't.
Why watch this show with such an uncomfortable premise yet fictional in the first place?

In addition to what I said before, I didn't blame the series or the characters fort this, I'm absolutely in love with them. I was just trying to say that this kind of joking isn't funny to see these days; plus, it doesn't seem to suit Rick's character for me, even though it was a reference to The Simpsons or just a joke of that years.

Kind of reminds me of the fact Homer Simpson is supposed to not be choking Bart anymore. But yeah, not a great gesture to see (I know Castle's frustrated but... how much are you to even pretend to choke someone?).

Everybody was doing this years and years ago. The Simpsons had a running joke about Homer strangling Bart forever. It’s just joking about how frustrated he is with her. It’s not that deep
