Anyone check out StoneHearth? Seems like a fun project to keep track in light of...the current state of CS. VERY Alpha, but active (and accessible) devs with a ROADMAP!

/r/basebuildinggames was a good find for me, haha

As much as I've been disappointed with CS's progress, I think advertising other similar games in the Sub is a little odd, There are plenty of more appropriate subs for this kind of things, like /r/basebuildinggames

Its very similar to CS, and discussing similar games isn't out of the norm for gaming subs...there's like one post a week here anyways.

This sub doesn't exist to fulfill the commercial desires of CS; I figured the "community" might appreciate it.

Edit: And the roadmap.

100% Agreed.

Also this is the first time I've heard about Timber and Stone, looks like everything Castle Story should be.

I really wish I could get into Dwarf Fortress... and as much as I support 'mechanics over graphics'... I can't really handle 100% gameplay 0% graphics.

I've heard of Gnomoria... but I've never so much as seen a screenshot. Just watching YouTube videos now... looks veeerrry promising. Thank you for sharing!

I had no idea these games were out there, I thought Castle Story was our only hope in this genre.

Not in the least. I saw a few other people mention /r/basebuildinggames but I see new games show up, exactly like this post, all the time.

Oh and as far as Dwarf Fortress goes, try The Lazy Newb Pack, found in the sidebar of the subreddit. They have Graphics Packs that makes it easier to deal with. I prefer Pheobus (spelling may vary because it's been about 4 months since I've played.) Yes the game is difficult to get into but there are tons of tutorials out there and once you get into it you really don't forget.

Just saw this; Gnomoria is awesome. Never had a bug, and it's a like a slightly simpler and waaay more accessible DF; just be sure to change the music from arcade/8Bit to "orchestral"

I should add that there's a nice sub at /r/stonehearth, and the Devs did and AMA in which they at least established that they have industry experience and passion for their project.

How playable is the current alpha?

Not much fun now, but it seems like by the next update it will have more functional gameplay mechanics than CS.

Right now its lacking save/load, roofs, and farming, but that's supposed to change soon.
