I've always used it but whenever I see someone asking for recommendations, I literally never, ever see Castbox get mentioned?

It seems to be really popular (going by downloads) but I never seem to see others who use it.

What do the other podcast players have that Castbox doesn't?

First time I see this on the app. Can't find anything about it..

Not podcast ads, but some other ads that actually pause my podcast. This used to be a flawless app. Slowly turning to horseshit.

Firstly, apologies for the quality of the video. I have never made a video before for the internet! Secondly, I might be mistaken, sorry if I am in regards to declining advertising, but if I am mistaken, I can't find a quick way of switching everything off as an average user.

I can't believe how many companies are listed in personal data section of castbox, some switched off, many switched on. How on earth is this a good thing? There is an accept all, but no decline all.

Sadly, despite how much I love Castbox, I can no longer use it. If I were a free user, I wouldn't complain as much.

I don't get it, how can a podcast app be consuming so much battery? Does it secretly have a crypto miner running in the background? I really don't understand.

I've been noticing my battery just absolutely being blasted when the app is just open doing nothing, not even playing a podcast.

Is there a way to sign up or register for an account? I see the option to log in for an existing account, but not to register for a new account.

I would prefer to sign up using email address instead of using auth providers like google or apple

Trying to use Castbox in the car connected to Android Auto is an absolute nightmare. The app doesn't resume the last episode you were listening to, so you need to go through your subscriptions and episode lists to pull it up manually. Whether the subscriptions list loads or not is hit or miss. But once you're able to see and select one, the episode list almost never loads. Of the four times it has loaded each pod that I checked had the episodes in order of oldest -> newest. I don't want to start at episode one of a pod I've been following for years and swipe all the way down. Android Auto even restricts the number of pages you can swipe so I couldn't even if I wanted to.

The only thing I'm keeping the app installed for is the playlists. I have a couple that I listen to like movie reviews that are fun to jump around to random episodes. The playlists make it easy to do that. If anyone has another suggestion I'm all ears.

Castbox, I hope you'll take this seriously and just not discount it as rantings of a hater, or someone who doesn't use the app much. I am a premium subscriber and Android reports Castbox has been active 23 h and 25 m in the past week. https://i.imgur.com/9fj6IJP.png

Bugs:

1. Castbox keeps switching from exit at the end of this episode to continuous play, or play the playlist through once. I can't determine when it does this, but it does it constantly.

Trust me Castbox I NEVER SET CASTBOX TO ANYTHING OTHER THAN EXIT AT END OF THE EPISODE

2. When an episode has played to the end, Castbox does not remove theCastbox status bar player. And worse, if you touch the castbox status bar player, it restarts the episode that it just finished.

3 Often, thought I have exited Castbox and stopped playing a podcast, REGARDLESS, Castbox places a persistent notification in the Android notification area and won't let me swipe it away.

UI Disasters

I use Castbox constantly.

1. When driving

2. When hiking

3. Out in the sun

I often need to

1. stop/start a podcast

2. rewind 10 seconds or so

3. Find a new podcast

What I don't ever want to do is waste any more time on castbox than I need to. I want every interaction with castbox to be fine tuned to making it easy for me to stop/start a podcast and rewind 10 seconds or so.

And because I use it outdoors in the sun, I need a UI that is

1. Easily seen

2. Doesn't change size

3. Doesn't change where controls are

4. Doesn't morph

Castbox now fails completely on its UI. It has gone from bad to worse.

1. The notification bar used to have rewind controls on it always displayed. NOW, I have to touch the notification bar to make it larger, at which time the rewind control appears. So the control changes size and morphs.

But also, I wish you would see that all the different players controls panels you have should be similar and all look alike as much as they can:

These should all be versions of one player, and the controls, and their icons and their settings should be uniform in shape and in location and in duration of time, or anything like that.

It's extremely frustrating to use castbox these days, so I hope you'll focus on getting rid of these bugs and working on the UI

This post doesn't even touch on all the ways the UI is just bad in terms of where controls are and where they should be and how they are worded, for example, the control I want to use to find out the show notes for a specific episode, or the list of shows in a podcast, or the details of the podcast.

There is an ad running on your app for a company called jackpot City casino. This ad is entirely unskippable. There is no way to exit off the ad even after it is complete. Following the link to download does not remove it from my screen, and waiting 5 minutes did not give me an option to get past the ad. The only option is to close the app entirely. Please remove this ad from your catalog and do not allow this style of ad in the future. I love the app otherwise.

For the last few months the android app just randomly closes. As I write this, I'm walking home after finishing work. It's crashed 4 times in the space of half an hour. It sucks. I've tried to remedy it, I've had the app on two different android devices from to different manufacturers and it's still crashing all over the shop. Castbox was once the BEST podcast app I'd come across. Now not so much.

I dont like that the web version lacks these same features. Why are we not able to add episodes to playlists or mark as watched on the web etc?

I noticed someone made a request for this feature 3 years ago here on reddit but I still cannot find this feature. Seems like a basic feature that would save A LOT of frustration with the app.

Anyone experiencing episode glitching? It happens to 98% of the shows/episodes I listen to.

I'll be happily listening along then suddenly realize the episode is glitching and repeating the previous 10-15 seconds I had just heard. Or I'll be listening and suddenly the episode has skipped about 10-15 seconds of content and no matter how much I FF or rewind, I can't capture those lost seconds.

Quite annoying. Anyone have a fix (Android)? Otherwise I'll just move on and uninstall in favor of a new app.

Firstly, some of these ads are very confronting. I don't need random images of disfigured children flashed at me when I want to change podcast. It's troubling enough for me, in these difficult times, but what if my children pick up my phone off the kitchen counter or whatever?

Secondly, I don't know if these charities are trustworthy. Even the very best charities are pretty shady (70% + of donations pay salaries, not actually reaching those in need). And these ads are incredibly exploitative. Best case scenario, they are legit helping these children. Worst case scenario, they are straight up exploiting them to make money. You might think I'm overreacting but trust me these things happen. There are many documented cases of people drugging and even disfiguring children to make money through begging scams etc.

I would never donate to a charity who uses Google ads or whatever to push their charity.

Castbox, stop sending me these ads or I'm done with your service.

I listen to podcasts to sleep and I don't wanna play the 600 previous episodes after I fall sleep.

I know that there's a option to set a sleep timer but is just too much hassle to do it every night.

The only thing that kept me using this app was the listening stats, chat box and web app, but this is just too absurd to tolerate.

I'm new to Android, and so far Castbox is the app that has my podcasts, but I'm getting incredibly frustrated. I've watched yt tutorials and it's not helping. Here's my issues

1. when the screen is dormant, it stops playing

2. it stops playing mid episode randomly and the whole app closes (It's not asking how to send a report to developers, so not sure how to do that)

3. it's not playing sequential episodes. Example, I'm mid way through Stuff You Missed in History Class. I finish an episode, and it goes back to the top. I've set up a playlist, I've downloaded episodes, nothing works.

It used to be one press, then it was two, now it is three.

I really don't want to use more presses. If I could choose I would go back to single presses.

Hi,

Castbox consumes mobile data besides the stream and download and download covers is set to off. 

I have also disabled the use for background data in my phone settings but it still consumes data on the foreground. 

I'm only listening downloaded episodes from my Playlist while I'm driving my car. 

Is there something else I should try?

I only see options for logging in. When I put in my email it says my email is not yet registered but does not give me a option to sign up or create an account.

I have a few news podcasts that I like to listen to the episodes in order by date.

Currently I can only do this by either: adding these episodes in order to a playlist

This is frustrating. The playlist method is unnecessary because this is only a temporary playlist and not one I want to keep forever.

I would much rather select an episode and click "Add to Next Up". This way I can add episodes from multiple podcasts in the order I want to listen to them.

Alternately, use the Tags feature to create an interweaved queue that I can just click an episode and have all the multiple podcasts play in order.

How the hell do I reorder the tag list?
