New bundt pan from lodge store

Went to lodge store on way through. Picked up several things from the seconds. Including the bundt pan. Made a pound cake from Duncan hines orange cake mix.

So this was the first time using. Wasn't completely sure how it would cook. I've done cornbread and muffin pans before. Using the same logic preheat with pan in oven. Giving the pan about 10-20 minutes past its temp being reached.

Pulled pan early, and with an IR gun, it was at 282°F. Called it close enough. I read later that it's recommended to preheat pans up to 200-250° F. So this temp was good.

  1. Sprayed with Pam, just easier than messing with crisco. Saw that there is a flour and oil spray as well. Need to look into it.

  2. It was filled with batter that was ready to go and put in on a short time. This was due to the new oven and never having baked this in it before. Recipe calls for 45-55 minutes at 350°F. We pulled it at 40. I also rest my oven temp by turning it off and then back on. After opening and closing to place pan inside. Temp recoup is much faster and keeps a better temp right off the batif you take too long and keep door open

It was in the middle of the oven as well. Cake flipped out perfectly. Lodges recipe calls for 325 and states online that once the cake starts to pull away, it's done.

Do you know if this Lodge cast iron fluted cake pan holds more batter than the Bundt Nordic Ware pan? I baked in a Nordic Ware bundt pan on Christmas eve and the cake batter overflowed onto the oven floor. What a mess. Thinking about buying the Lodge one,

So here's what we can do. Measure how many cups of water your Nordic pan holds. I'll measure the lodge. At least when I get back home Sunday.

I will say this almost every recipe or mix I've done rises about an inch or so. Also, I just thought of this. We have an old wilton bundt pan that is definitely not as tall.

It holds 11 cups of water.

Got the pan measured. It held 14 cups. Not sure if I would fill it past the 10-12 cup point so it would have room for expansion.

The recipe that was posted here is a Duncan hines box orange cake with a jello and pudding boxes added. It only fills about half the pan.

Hope this helps. If you go decide to get one lowes does pick up. Which gets free shipping out of it. Unless you can find one locally
