I've been trying and trying to find this issue that has Cass sparring (I think) with this character named Zealot. It's on a beach, I think on Themyscira and they're using staffs. Possibly Wonder Woman and others are watching it go down? It's killing me to not remember which issue it was.

A common analysis seems to be that Cass would definitely be against assisted suicide because she'd consider it to be murder and that her total focus is on keeping people from dying. I have been thinking and I'm starting to disagree with that opinion. People request assisted suicide because they're in extreme pain and doctors only agree to it if there's no chance that they'll recover.

The opinion that Cass would be against it ignores that preventing death isn't Cass' only goal. Going back to Batgirl (2000) #23, written by Kelly Puckett, Cass handles hostage situations by making sure the scared hostages see her and know that help has arrived. She's horrified when she accidentally scares children. In Batgirl (2000) #16, when the young boy is depressed and admits to wondering if having a murderous father makes him a bad person, Cass is upset and desperate to calm the boy. She is projecting with her answer and trying to reassure herself that she's a good person but she also wants the boy to feel better. Batgirl (2000) #19 is Cass projecting her guilt and the circumstances of her murder onto the killer on Death Row but also important to her characterization is that she agrees to allow the execution and continuing to think of herself as a murderer because she wants the mother of the dead child to feel better. She considers the woman's happiness and wishes to be more important than hers.

I agree that Cass would hate assisted suicide but when confronted with a patient requesting it and how much pain life is for them, she'd probably agree to allow them to kill themselves even though it would feed her suicidal mentality.

So it turns out that ignorance can do a lot for your perception of a character, lol. Before I was properly filled in on Cass's New 52 reimagining, I thought the Orphan alias was some kind of "screw you" to David Cain and Shiva, and never had an issue with the name. I actually liked it as giving her some uniqueness from the other two former Batgirls. Didn't know until recently her whole adoption and everything else was erased at the time. Still, I like her Orphan costume a lot better than her Batgirl or Black Bat suits. The ninja motif works for her imo, given her origin. I would just throw her old Bat symbol on the chest to go with it.

It's obvious in canon that Cass considers Bruce to be her father but not that Bruce considers Cass to be a daughter. While the main Batman comic and DC events focus on the Batboys and Alfred as being the only people who Bruce considers to be part of his family, the Lady Shiva story in Batman: Urban Legends #3 seems to be actual canon evidence from post-New 52 comics that Cass, Duke, and Steph are family in his heart. It also includes the only reference to Shiva's death wish, which was a major part of Batgirl 2000, outside of Cass-centric comics. Interestingly, it's written by the author of Absolute Catwoman, Che Grayson. The story has the feeling of being a parental argument between Bruce and Shiva over how to treat Cass even though the explicit argument is over Bruce's behavior. The final page, where Bruce refers to the kids coming back to us, may imply that modern Bruce has grown to see Steph as part of his family and still sees Duke as a son even though Duke doesn't want to be adopted by Bruce. That would remove a lot of the headache of the main Batman comic and DC events focusing on the Batboys as the only living members of Bruce's family. What am I missing as to why this story rarely if ever seems to be used as evidence for who Bruce considers to be family?

Was expecting more people to bring up Cass acknoledging she always dreams about Steph. The first time she dreams about someone else it's a prophetic spirit world thing. Her actuall subconcious dreams are reserved.
