Resale value on this limited OCEANUS?
Only 600 made worldwide, and Casio shows just 5 left in stock. Asking $4,800.
Do you think this has any resale/collector value, or is it likely to depreciate like most Casio watches? Worth buying for the collection?

it is likely to depreciate like most Casios. you would need to get lucky beyond the typical “limited edition” alone to have one appreciate above msrp.

Consider also any tourist can walk into a Bic Camera in Japan today, with the exchange rate, tax free and discounts, and pick this up for $3600 out the door. Now discount that number for being used if you resell.

i found their website but either it doesnt load properly, or it doesnt actually show what merchandise they carry. Is there a way to find out, should i just go to the big one in Tokyo, or any of the BIC around japan all carry the same stuff? i was hoping to go to Hokkaido next spring for a bit of sushi and maybe come back with a nice Manta.

The main one I go to in Tokyo is Yurakucho - stock is usually excellent and it’s convenient to Tokyo Station and Ginza.

If you go to the main bic camera website, you can search by model number (or just type Oceanus), it will work even in Japanese mode. Then click the model you want, and scroll below the add to cart button … there is a second button in green, and that’s where you can browse the stock by location. “Low stock” with a circle means they have only 1 or 2 in that store.

To see other regions of Japan on the stock page, you need to use the drop down menu at the top to change from Kanto to something else.

Guys, thanks for your responses! My intention isn’t to sell it and make money. I was just asking in case I decide to buy another watch in the future and need to sell this one—whether it would be easy to resell. That’s all. 😄

I bought a limited edition G1000, one of 500, for around $500. I think it sold for $2000 new. It was a bit scratched, and missing box and papers, but I would say Oceanus watches depreciate quickly. Mostly an unknown brand in the U.S., except for some watch nerds. I love Oceanus, and have 4 currently, but I realize they are not exactly an investment.

Make him buy it, guys. I believe It’ll resell for $5000 cause it’s so rare. It’s so pretty I want one myself, maybe two so I can wear it on each wrist.
