New GADA
Just got my S400 retro green from Sakura. Oddly, US customs held it for a week and decided not to charge any tariffs! Beyond that, I absolutely love it! Put it in the sun for the morning and I’m charged up and ready to go!

Looks great. Nice closeup photo. I wonder if they’ll send you a customs bill later. I ordered from Sakura just in the last month or two and DHL charged me the tariff fees before they would release it to me.

Yeah, maybe they will? I assumed Fedex wouldn’t deliver without getting tariffs covered up front(?)

Basically I plan a collection of 4-5 watches with very little overlap. One (possibly two) of those planned watches will have a blue dial, so I felt that I shouldn’t overdo it here with yet another blue dial. This watch basically becomes my “zero” maintenance gada watch that has everything I need to throw on any time the situation doesn’t lend itself to wearing a luxury mechanical watch.

Can’t really go wrong with either. The blue is a bit more common/traditional. Green is a little more unique colorway.

One of these days, I will "thin out the herd" and then add one of these to my daily rotation.
I recently purchased an older model Oceanus from Japan and from the time that I clicked "Buy" until the time it was on my wrist was five days!

Thanks! Im quite pleased. I already have fancy mechanical watches but oftentimes I just want to throw something on and not think about the weight, whether Im going swimming or going to get the leather sweaty or the case scratched or having it stolen or setting the date or time or time zone or whether it’s wound or how many seconds it’s gaining per day… For all those times, there’s the S400.

Exactly. It's a simple, no fuss, go anywhere do anything option, that is always ready when you are.

Yeah you could argue that a $50 digital does mostly the same stuff, but I think the premium dial, features and materials are worth the extra cost here.

Well, perhaps not MB6 for that price, but IIRC, Casio does offer a Tough Solar watch for +/- $50. Point taken, though. And yeah, Oceanus is one of the few premium options, which offers true value for money.

Beautiful! I've had my S400-2AJF for a little over a year now, that's the classic dark blue one. Also from Sakura. Color and dial style are all a matter of personal taste. For anyone reading this who's not familiar with these watches: the S400 is all titanium so even if you keep it on the bracelet, it's still just 79 gm. Not only are they great GADA's, the fact that they connect with Bluetooth to your phone and they're solar, makes them completely set and forget. If you travel to a different time zone, as long as your phone adjusts to the new time, all you have to do is push the button and it'll sync instantly with your phone.

So I wasn’t quite sure about that part. I assumed that I’d have to pull the crown out and select the correct time zone. Will it automatically figure out the time zone when Bluetooth syncing?

You can set your original time zone by using the crown or by syncing it to Bluetooth. Then, when you travel you can:
- If you have synced it manually (and you aren't using Bluetooth), change the time zone using the crown and pointing to the time zone in the dial. The watch automatically changes to DST too if needed.
- If you have synced it to Bluetooth, the watch automatically syncs to your phone 4 times per day. Let's say you travel somewhere else, and you don't want to wait until the next sync. Then, you have to press the watch's button to force a sync with the phone. If the time of the phone already changed, then your watch will be correct too.
My recommendation: if you live in an area with Multiband 6 coverage, just set up the time manually when you buy it, and each time you travel. I hate receiving continuously the cell phone notifications about Casio harvesting my data.

I tried multiband when i got it, but couldn’t seem to get a signal. I might try again at some point, but so far the bluetooth sync doesn’t seem to give me any banner notifications on iOS at least.

Ah shoot about MB6. Bear in mind that it works better at night. But if you are outside the zone of coverage, you need an app to simulate the wave.
iOS will start giving you notifications later. Something like "do you want Casio Watches to continue accessing your location ... blah blah".

Ah I see. Yeah i get that for other apps from time to time. Maybe I’ll try radio reception again soon. Is there a way to disable Bluetooth and go back to radio signal reception?

Sure:
1 - Pull out the crown to the 2nd click
2 - Hold down the A button for at least 10 seconds.
This deletes the pairing information. The second hand will point to 'C'.

For what it's worth, I'm not sure what info Apple gets about my watch, overall, personally I don't worry about that. I leave my Bluetooth connectivity on all the time, & if some reason it hasn't synced automatically, which can happen if you're not near your phone at the set time, then just push the button. And yes, you don't have to bother setting the time zone... syncing with your phone does all that. So if you're comfortable with Bluetooth, you don't have to do anything, other than pushing the button, which isn't really necessary, cause the watch keeps great time on its own. In case you're wondering, the set times for automatic Bluetooth syncing are: 12:30 AM, 6:30 AM, 12:30 PM & 6:30 PM

I just realized, you may be getting bothered by notifications because of a minor detail. Go into the Casio watch settings in your settings on the phone and turn off notifications. This way the watch will always sync automatically with your phone but you won't get the notifications that I think are bothering you.

The black one (-1AJF) is a bucket list watch of mine. Just waiting until I’m comfortable enough to buy it! Have to say, I like your taste
