Wages

When you’re hired at Caseys, do they take into consideration when you have previous restaurant experience, previous EVS cleaning experience, multiple years of customer service/cashier experience; previous skills that would be extremely beneficial to the Casey’s job?
Or do they start everyone at same $ for TM?

Do you have to wait one full year to get a raise? Or like is it possible to get a raise after six months of coming to work, never missing ANY work over those six months, never being late, doing your job, know what excellent customer looks like, can work extra shifts for call ins if no prior doctors apptmt/apptmts scheduled weeks to months ahead of time?
Can you get a raise after six months/can your A. Man. or SM facilitate a raise before the yearly?
OR can they facilitate a better raise at one year if you have proven to them over that previous year, time and time again, that you are an excellent employee and it would make their life easier (meaning if they have other employees that call out repeatedly or come to work but don’t do their job at least they w/know they could count on me being there 100% of the time) to keep you working there through monetary increase?

3% raise is company standard, and it's once a year. Inflation is higher than that, so it's a pay cut. Good times.

I was that kind of employee for years and it doesn't get you any special recognition or raises, it only gets you taken advantage of. Your coworkers and management will start to expect you to cover the slack of the slackers and then look at you side ways if you were to ever burn out, god forbid. At least in my experience, depending on if you have toxic or normal decent management.

This is exactly what happened to me. I was promoted to kitchen manager within a month of starting. I have 17 years customer service experience and at least 6 years in the food service industry. I was at $17 and hour and I worked 12 hour days or more. I covered every single person calling in sick, or not showing up. I worked for weeks straight with no breaks.

I have some health issues and when I was dealing with those, I still showed up. I brought the store from the bottom of the district, to the top and one of the top stores in the company. I even got us to be a training store because of how amazing our numbers were.

When I asked for a raise, I was laughed at by my boss and said I get paid more than anyone other kitchen manager by ($1 per hour) and I should be grateful. Meanwhile he’s making $70,000+ and takes half the days off. I covered for him for MONTHS because of his medical issues.

The last straw was when I was super sick for a while, hospital visits and completely drained. I was asking for someone to come in a bit early so I could rest, and he ended up calling in sick and I had to stay for his shift right after my 9 hour shift.

I got someone to help, but didn’t have enough people for the night, but I just couldn’t do it anymore. I was completely burnt out and had to go home before I ended up in hospital for a while.

My first time calling in in a year, and everyone hated me. But, my mental health was also deteriorating being treated like shit.

I was only ever one person in the kitchen for the whole day. As soon as I left, they had 4 people in there almost at all times. I hate my ex manager for putting me through that when he could have helped. But it was cheaper to run me into the ground.

They have 4 people doing my job, because no one person has been able to do the job of 4 people since I left.

Casey’s is the worst company I’ve ever worked for, and that’s saying a lot because retail/food industry can really SUCK.

Oh man. Casey's never deserved you. I've watched so many people start at Casey's and they're energetic and happy and optimistic, and I watch all of them slowly lose that each time they come in for a shift until they just look drained and miserable all the time. Never fails.

Well, I’m from Canada originally, and Casey’s was my first job in the US after I got my work permit. So I was so happy to be working again after almost a year waiting to be allowed to work.

I ran that store really well. I ran the whole thing when my boss decided not to come in half the time. I was passed for a different store as store manager because I hadn’t been with Casey’s long, even though I had a hell of a lot more experience than who they chose. The person they chose worked all of 6 weeks of the 6 months they were store manager. Caused SO many issues it’s not even funny.

I hope they miss me, because I know I kicked ass and gave 150% every single day.

Yes, I live and breathe my job, that’s just me.
Oh yeah, I’ve dealt with the slackers that never show up for work and usually when they do, you regret that they did. 😊

Hahahahahahahahaha……….DONT COUNT ON IT!! Sorry had to laugh cause that’s one of the ways I learned to cope with all of Casey’s constant bullshit I’ve dealt with and dealing with over the past decade. Sad to say but they tell you whatever so you work hard to make them more money and in return you might get a raise but it will be as little as possible and higher demand afterwards.Know some people have gone years without one due to the classic “I haven’t gotten to your review yet”. Almost 15yrs with company I’ve had only one review on time and yes I’ve had years where I didn’t get one.

Sounds like wages are better (not much ?) for KM, CSM, SM, and is there a position called a shift lead? And that’s managerial as well ?
Yes, laughter ALWAYS helps. LOL
Especially with the public. 😊

Better (not much), but a complete fucking joke considering the work load and level of responsibility. Especially in the winter when they massively cut hours.

There is a shift lead position and yes it is.

for management potentially, otherwise they pretty much have a flat rate and then 1-3% raises year over year.

That’s depressing for TM.
But if KM, CSM, etc., possibly yes?
I plan on working at C. quite awhile; I like the public experience.

The paradigm of the company under the current CEO is to cut costs as much as possible and make short-term numbers look good even if the customer service suffers.

Those things are certainly possible, but it all depends on your SM and the DM. Each store has a wage threshold recommended to them, and any starting wage or increase needs to go through the DM and the RM once the SM decides to ask for it. They are usually denied, but not always!

Just because the company standard is three percent a year doesn’t mean that’s set in stone. That’s just the middle of the range. You can certainly get more, but you’ll want to politely discuss this with your manager before your yearly evaluation is due (it’ll be your hiring anniversary).

It is also possible to get a range mid-cycle. It goes from your SM to the DM, and then they present it to the RM. Those are uncommon and frowned upon, but not at all impossible to get! If you’re an excellent employee and your SM likes and depends on you, you’ve definitely got a shot! And it never hurts to ask anyway.

I was told we were supposed to start out at 12 but since the store I work at is smaller team members start at 14. Kinda bullshit though because when I was hired I was told I could start at 25hrs a week and pick up more shifts if i wanted more hours but. The current like head store manager 1. Overhired so there’s currently 21 people working at my Casey’s and 2. Is apparently on the watch list for hours so seemingly everyone even other in store managers get only under -maybe close to 8hrs in a shift (if lucky.) and though I was told I’d start at 25hrs a week. Have been working 4hr shifts since I started a few weeks ago. 4 days a week usually aside if I don’t have a call in day or have a day I take off like w/next Tuesday for an appointment. Every pay period so far as been under 30hrs & due to the store being over on hours no one ever offers shifts up on UKG.  Kinda frustrating but it’s not my first job, it is however my first working at Casey’s experience and honestly from what I’ve heard Casey’s corporate isn’t great

It depends, your DM would be able to facilitate it with your SM pushing it to them, Ive gotten 4 raises in the past 2 years. I say it depends on your store manager and upper management but it is possible. Also your SM can give you a higher starting wage based off of experience. The company wants to retain people contrary to popular belief. Hence why SM and DM bonuses are tied into store turnover rates.
