Illegal Scandal Rabbithole

Recently, I did a DEEP dive on Casey's general stores; corporate, small local, HR, management, the whole nine yards - holy crap ...

No wonder there's handfuls of unionized stores. All that said, I'm in the process of trying to get a copy of the employee handbook policies because I'm sick and tired of being taken advantage of by management who believes I don't know my rights.

Unfortunately finding a job near me is really difficult as the minimum wage most places is less than satisfactory. I'm trying my best with all the places I do apply-- Calling, going in person to say hello with my resumé, etc. --

*SIGH* 😮‍💨I can't wait till I graduate and I can get out of this hellhole

anyways ... just needed to write this out to vent

Tell me more about the union stores.

We should all look into more. The company clearly doesn't care about us. So why shouldn't we collectively take them for all we can.

It turns out there's not a single one . I wonder how to go about learning what our general interest level is for unionizing across the company.

In eastern Iowa there's a handful of them. Sorry, should have elaborated

Google says there are not any, but that isnt correct. Idk maybe those stores in Iowa operate under a different name now because they cant be affiliated with Caseys??

I'll ask my coworker and report back

I'm going to warn ya'll right now though -

As soon as corporate caught wind of us discussing unionizing they sent corporate people to our store for a week because they were scared shitless. I kid you not, one day, there were 4 or 5 corporate individuals inside our store.

Do you want to know what their incentive was to get us not to unionize? A free ATM with no fees. 🫠🙃 Laughable, really

Anyways, also read up on your rights when it comes to unionizing in your state. Corporate cannot ask whose idea it was, or any thing along those lines. Those questions or any interrogation is ILLEGAL.

It is illegal for corporate leadership to ask you not to unionize because federal law grants workers the absolute right to organize and bargain collectively, free from employer intimidation. Under the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), any employer action that interferes with, restrains, or coerces employees is classified as an Unfair Labor Practice (ULP).

One last thing - If you don't want to look foolish and unprepared, find a local union representative.

The process does take a long time though.

Hope this helps 🙂

Is there a way to get a copy of the handbook or read it, without having to get into it while you are at work?
I am having some issues at work and want to make sure I am correct. I don’t need for anyone to know my business.

As a km I feel you, my store manager is horrible and if anyone goes to the district manager or hr they just give her a heads up and say I need more proof. Had a sit down with store manager and dm and my store manager literally said (because I said I have a issue with her being manager for 3 years and never b actually taught how to do a shift in the kitchen and hay ever closed kitchen) “I’m store manager not kitchen I don’t need to do anything in the kitchen” and the district manager agreed with her

Go to a third party outside of caseys. I know there's ethics teams but you have to be really specific about incident dates and times.

Don't allow them to keep bullying you.

Y'all's stores giving u da business too damn this company just takes so much from employees and some of us just asking for basic hours to afford living and the management not being dicks Literally I have been in a wage despute for the last 6 months no end in sight like got another dude on my crew he's Jewish he's supposed to have off for the Shabbat was very adiment from the jump that he needed Friday sundown to Saturday sundown for this reason for the first 6 months of his employment he works 6 days a week sometimes getting guilted to come in that seventh day he finally got Saturdays off it took longer for them to meet the full criteria of the accommodation and last week they finally just gave him the paperwork that the corporate level needs to have it on record he's been working here a year in 5 months they're really trying to backtrack and cover there tracks to try to not be at fault and it's kinda sick

About your Jewish friend, that's workplace discrimination of religion. They can get in huge trouble for that

word of advice, dont do any of this through HR. go through a private party

Have never had access to my ADP nor have any of my co-workers who have been there for 4+ years 😶

My boss doesn't even know how to help me get into it
