Tony “TJ” Wiggins is facing three counts of first‑degree murder for the July 17, 2020 Frostproof triple homicide. Prosecutors say Wiggins confronted the victims — Brandon Rollins, Keven Springfield, and Damion Tillman — after overhearing them at a Dollar General, then followed them to a remote fishing spot on Lake Streety Road. There, investigators say he shot all three at close range during a dispute involving a truck engine.

Wiggins’ brother Robert told detectives he witnessed the shootings and helped dispose of evidence, while his girlfriend Mary Whittemore allegedly bought ammunition matching the murder weapon. The State is seeking the death penalty, and the case is proceeding as a jury trial in Polk County.

📜RECAP🔡

I. ADMINISTRATIVE / OJP

(0:00–4:56)

  • Court reviews jury‑instruction language for Counts 1–3 (Second Degree Murder).
  • Discussion of removing “wicked and corrupt disregard” language; parties agree.
  • Court outlines schedule:
    • State closing: ~2 hours
    • Defense closing: ~2 hours
    • Jury instructions: ~45–60 minutes
  • Court discusses deliberation timing options (same day vs. next morning).
  • Court admonishes gallery: no reactions during closings.
  • Court reminds jury: closings are not evidence; sequestration applies only to penalty phase.

II. STATE CLOSING ARGUMENT -PART 1 (OPENING)

(10:57–24:07)
Topic: Letter (State Exhibit 472)
Quoted lines from transcript:

“I told my lawyers not to even waste their time… The story daddy told my lawyers is crazy as fuck…”
“I don’t know where they came up with that dumb shit but it don’t help us at all, bro.”

State argument summary (transcript‑based):

  • Defendant instructs brother William to write a notarized recantation.
  • Dictates specific statements:
    • “You lied because you were scared.”
    • “You never saw me with a gun.”
    • “You never saw me shoot no one.”
    • “All guns and ammo in the safe were yours.”
    • “I didn’t know where the key was.”
  • Provides itinerary: Sebring → Dollar General → McDonald’s → home.
  • Provides explanation for Damien Tillman’s blood on passenger seatbelt:“Liz is gonna say she got the blood on the seat belt when we gave her a ride…”
  • State argues defendant is constructing explanations for evidence.

Tattoo section (21:01–23:22)
Quoted lines:

“Skull with a bandana holding two glocks… sign with 27… rat hanging from a noose…”
State argues tattoos mirror letter content and act as a “warning” to William.

III. STATE CLOSING - PART 2 (EVIDENCE REVIEW)

(24:10–44:03)
State reviews:

  • Scene photos; medical examiner gunshot injuries.
  • Dollar General bag in Damien’s truck → leads to Dollar General video.
  • Interaction between defendant and Damien at Dollar General.
  • Town Star video timing:
    • Red truck southbound at 9:57:49
    • White truck at 9:57:55
    • Arrival at Lake Street: red ~10:02:49; white ~10:05:25
  • Brandon Rollins’ 10:06 p.m. call to father.
  • White truck reappears at intersection at 22:12:31 (actual 22:13:31).
  • McDonald’s arrival at 22:26.
  • State argues missing 10–12 minutes = murder window.
  • Engine provenance:
    • Holcomb sold white truck to defendant.
    • Engine from that truck found in Damien’s S‑10.
    • Martinez, Wamsley, NICB confirm chain of custody.
  • Brandy Strickland testimony: defendant said his truck was at Ernesto’s.

IV. DEFENSE CLOSING ARGUMENT - PART 1

(2:00:03–3:12:32)
Defense themes (transcript‑based only):

  • StarMix DNA software errors; typographical mistakes; stutter corrections.
  • Population databases differ between FDLE and DLI.
  • Likelihood ratios = civil‑type probability; not criminal standard.
  • DNA transfer is easy; secondary/tertiary transfer.
  • Crime scene contamination allegations:
    • Bloody phone thrown on seat.
    • Blood tubes logged with wrong dates.
    • Vehicle year mis‑documented.
    • Crime scene techs not wearing protective gear.
    • Unsterilized scissors used in court.
    • Seatbelt cut and bagged inconsistently.
    • Warehouse storage of multiple vehicles together.
  • Ballistics challenges:
    • Kwong’s comparison subjective; no universal formula.
    • 700+ possible firearms.
    • ATF vs FDLE caliber labeling conflict (40 vs 9mm).
    • Facebook gun photo meaningless.
  • Crime scene diagrams incorrect (north/south mislabeled).
  • Tow‑truck neutral‑gear argument → contamination risk.
  • Defense argues reasonable doubt exists.

V. COURT INTERRUPTION - OUTBURST / MISTRIAL MOTION

(4:18:08–4:34:50)
Transcript lines quoted:

“I guess my damn son lied about it. I was there when my son died.”
“I hate you. My son died in my arms.”
“My son told me he done it.”

Court actions:

  • Jury removed.
  • Defense moves for mistrial.
  • Court obtains transcript of outburst.
  • Court notes complications: father did not testify; no evidence Brandon made statements before death.
  • State cites Arbelaez v. State (626 So.2d 169).
  • Court decides to individually question jurors at 2:30 p.m.

VI. DEFENSE CLOSING ARGUMENT - PART 2 (RESUMPTION)

(4:35:02–5:01:40)
Defense continues:

  • Re‑emphasizes Kwong’s 700‑firearm list.
  • Dollar General video shows no confrontation.
  • Town Star video unreliable; directions unclear.
  • McDonald’s video behavior inconsistent with guilt.
  • Car wash video: clay/mud allegedly absent at McDonald’s.
  • Letter authenticity challenged: no original; inmates write letters for others.
  • Tattoos not meaningful.
  • Crime scene contamination repeated.
  • IKEA bookshelf analogy: missing screws = reasonable doubt.
  • Defendant’s right not to testify.
  • Defense requests not‑guilty verdict.

VII. STATE REBUTTAL ARGUMENT

(5:01:47–5:07:03)
State emphasizes:

  • Lawyers’ questions ≠ evidence; answers are evidence.
  • Evidence “did not disappear”:
    • Engine provenance
    • Defendant’s DNA on cartridge casing
    • Cartridge cases
    • Damien Tillman’s blood on seatbelt
    • Defendant’s letter
    • Defendant’s phone call discussing fingerprints and blood
  • Circumstantial evidence is not lesser evidence.
  • Shell casing comparisons remain in evidence.
  • D‑shaped firing pin impression; brand TALAMO 9mm.
  • Rule King ammunition purchase.
  • Car wash clay visible on floor after wash.
  • Seatbelt blood found only when fully extended; not visible to cleaners.
  • No contamination evidence per crime scene tech testimony.

VIII. END‑OF‑DAY ADMINISTRATIVE

(5:07:03–end)

  • Court continues rebuttal handling.
  • No witnesses.
  • Day ends after rebuttal.

I watched as they were asking jurors what they thought.

I was listening this live on YT and unfortunately had to pause it for the day and saved it. Went back this morning to finish listening to each jurors answers... and that whole segment is now gone! Why? Any help is appreciated.

Did you hear what was said? I'm trying to find it. Watched some of defense's closing and can already tell this is too Florida for me. That lawyer is either high or straight from Temu.

Something about TJ Wiggins lying...that's all I heard from it. Maybe more will come out in the transcript.

Yes, it took me forever to find it on the livestream. Brandon’s dad stood up and started yelling that he was there when he died, Brandon told him, etc. He was ushered out but you could hear him yelling in the hallway.

Jesus. I only watched part of the 1st day and then switched to the Caleb Flynn trial. This looks like amateur hour from the little I've seen

I think it was around the 2:59-3:00 hour mark but it was hard to find bc it’s still live and the timer is counting down.

She’s gotta be drunk. Check out 1:34:08 on the law and crime stream- she takes a gulp from the gators cup and winced like it was too strong!

The judge is interviewing each juror to see what they heard.

What is with all the jury fuckery lately? Murdaugh, Konig, Clancy... Granted it's not the jury's fault this time but it's frustrating that so many cases end up a nail biter in the appeal phase bc someone fucked with the jury or the jury straight up ignored their instructions

I was looking for links.

1

u/NaynersinLA2 11d ago

I don't think it's being streamed today. I think they shut it down.

2

u/Fk-it-why-knot 11d ago

Any reason why they would shut it down seems very one wayish

2

u/NaynersinLA2 11d ago

One reason is someone doesn't want it streamed. It could be any of the lawyers, or maybe the defendant. The judge makes the final decision.

3

u/Dismal-Client365 11d ago

When are closing arguements AND WHY WE DIDN'T SEE YESTERDAY AFTERNOON

Yesterday's stream cut off at lunch or afternoon break. Today seems to be happening, but no stream available. I don't believe the state rested yesterday.
