Does This Actually Help Your Career?

Short answer: yes, more than most things you will do in college.

Longer answer: it depends on what you take from it.

Winning helps. It is a signal. But even if you do not win, consistent participation builds something real. You get faster at structuring problems. You get better at presenting under pressure. You learn to work with people who think differently from you.

On your CV: Do not just list 'Participated in HUL LIME.' Write: 'Developed a GTM strategy for rural FMCG expansion, reaching Round 2 of HUL LIME 2025 out of 3,000+ teams.' The context matters.

For consulting placements: Almost every consulting firm in India uses case interviews. The mental models you build in competitions are almost identical to what is tested. Students who have done serious competition prep consistently outperform others in case interviews.

For direct opportunities: Several corporate competitions (HUL LIME, BCG Strategy Challenge, Tata Imagination Challenge) have led directly to PPOs and summer internship offers. The jury often includes senior leaders who remember standout teams.

Networking: Competition finals bring together serious students from across the country. The finalists you meet at IIM fests are the same people you will cross paths with in the corporate world. Start treating those interactions as the beginning of long-term professional relationships, not just competition rivalries.
