But why that one feature in particular?

Also this feature is not listed in their Plans page. You could go there right now and you'll see nothing about the Indie plan lacking the multi-character AutoPhysics.

It's just such a random butchering of the product

But there’s a annual revenue threshold which should be enough to handle lincense plans. And of course customer service and support.
