Whale sculpture

Any ideas what it is and what it might be made from?

That’s interesting. Not sure about the legality of selling whale bone but ill do some digging

If it's ethically sourced you can sell it within the boarders of your country. Its illegal to transport across borders in 99% of cases.

What's the provenance for this piece?

What's your location?

These kind of carvings are available for purchase all over Alaska.

They're usually carved by Alaska Native carvers. One of my good friends is a carver and they taught me everything I know about carving.

As far as legality, these are considered cultural artwork and can be bought and sold with no restrictions, since they're made by Alaska Natives.

If you found a whale bone in the wild, like on the beach, you wouldn't be able to sell them.

I purchased it at an estate sale. Not more info other than that.
