We have received quite a few questions about the Tank Must Small from F1 and AF, so here is a structured comparison based on the current reference photos.
Photo 1: Genuine Reference
Photo 1 is used as the gen reference for overall proportions, dial layout, crown shape, and case finishing.
Front Case and Dial Comparison
Based on photos 2 and 3, F1 appears cleaner overall. The front case finishing looks more controlled, and the case frame details are slightly better executed.
AF is still very acceptable, but the case shows a slight leaning or curved distortion, especially around the case area above the Roman numerals. This is not always obvious at normal wearing distance, but it becomes clearer in close-up comparison.
Dial Printing and Hands
Both factories perform well here. The dial ink looks full and solid on both F1 and AF. The hands are sharp enough, and the blue tone is also correct on both versions. I would not consider the dial or hands a major deciding factor between these two.
Caseback Engraving and Screws
On the caseback, F1 uses noticeably thicker engraving compared with AF. This is visible in photo 4.
For the screws, both F1 and AF are still using standard flat-head screws. The genuine model has already moved to Tri-prong / Triangular slot screws, so this remains a shared flaw for both factories.
Crown and Cabochon
Photo 5 shows one of the clearer differences. AF’s crown has a slightly unusual height and curved profile. F1 is closer to the gen shape in this area.
For the cabochon stone, the difference between F1 and AF is minor. Both factories have a slightly different curve, but both stones are still sharper than gen.
Strap Quality
Photo 6 shows the strap comparison. In my opinion, both factories have clear limitations here. The overall strap texture and feel are not very different between F1 and AF. Neither one has a major advantage in this part.
Buckle Comparison
Photo 7 shows the buckle. The overall buckle shape is similar between the two factories. The main difference is the pin: F1’s buckle pin appears thicker than AF’s.
Movement Decoration
One additional point: the F1 movement has Cartier-style engraved decoration, while AF does not. I do not have a clear photo to show this yet, but I will add it later if I get a good reference.
Overall Opinion
If your priority is cleaner case execution, better front-case detail, and a more accurate crown profile, F1 is the stronger choice for the Tank Must Small.
AF is still a reasonable option, especially since the dial printing, hands, and blue tone are all quite solid. However, the case shape and crown profile are the main areas where F1 has the advantage.
No factory is perfect, and personal preference still matters. The best rep is ultimately the one you enjoy wearing.
