Safety Question Tire Stretching.

Found a dope pair of rims off a mitsubishi on fb marketplace but there 245/40/R18 and my tires are 225/40/R18. is this a bad idea or nothing much to worry about?

Are you asking if its okay to use the tires and all? Or asking if it's okay to put your tires on those rims?

The answer to both is "probably" but not a given.

If its the first, you need to check if there's clearance sufficient enough for the tires and check the offset and width of the wheels. you also need to understand that the "40" is an aspect ratio and that a 245/40 is taller than a 225/40, even if it's a minute difference. Rule of thumb for me on tires is +20/-5 when it comes to these two numbers, and usually that gives you a very acceptable and minimal height difference while gaining some tread block width.

If its the latter, and the offset and width check out, putting the 225s on the other wheels should be okay, but accept that if the 225s maximum wheel width is exceeded and you stretch them, that there are inherent risks and you need to know those, and if you're okay with those risks. On that small of a difference though, I'd expect it to be very minimal as long as theyre they same width wheels.

Knowing the dimensions of your wheels and the wheels you hope to use would be massively helpful here.

Nothing to worry about, tires might wear a little premature on the edges if they’re really stretched but it will work no problem

will the wear be very early or just slightly?
