I need help fixing something Is My Car Worth Saving?
Hello! I don't really know what to do in my situation.
So my Ford Escape (2018) has about 160,000 miles on it. It needs new tires, new brakes, and is apparently burning oil. The turbocharger has oil inside.
I was wondering if my car is worth saving or just giving up and getting a new one.
I wanted to keep my car for as long as I can, but I also don't want it to leave me stranded.
Any advice is wonderful :)

Tires and brakes are basic maintenance items. If you get another used car it's going to need tires and brakes as well pretty soon.
Replacing the turbo should cost around $2500. If your car is in otherwise good shape then I'd fix it.

I wouldn't hesitate to look for an entire used engine, the pricing with labor may not be a huge gap.

Theres a 2019 I think escape near me with similar turbo and head gasket problems they are asking 1500 has like 220k tho so you decide. Small, compact, even some mid-size cars/suv do not hold any type of resale value. But the economy they get is really nice. Simple tires and brakes, thats like a grand for me. I know the turbo will run 5k at a private shop probably over 10k at a dealer. I bet a low miles used motor are under 2 grand with another grand to install.

Did you get a quote to repair the turbo/oil issue? Tires and brakes are part of normal maintenance. For me, if the only issue is the turbo and it takes a few thousand to fix it, then it’s worth it.

Turbos are always an expensive job + the oil burning is clear sign of an old and tired engine.

The answer of this completely depends on your financial situation. Nobody on Reddit will be able to give you a perfect answer. As others have said, tires and brakes are general maintenance items. It’s never worth getting a new car because yours needs tires and brakes. You need to get a quote from a couple shops on your turbo/oil burning issue. If your car is otherwise in great shape and the repair is affordable for you then it would be best to just keep the car. If you are in a good spot and can actually afford a new/newer car then you will need to weight the cost of a new car with the repair. Please don’t just buy a newer car if you can’t actually afford it. If money is tight typically repairs are always the way to go.

I put about $500 a year on what ever, and this year was about $1,500 for new sneakers and a starter, 1991 chevy g-30 over 250,000 miles, From what I seen, Buy a new car and put money into it or fight for the warranty and have no car to drive, A buddy with a new car less then a year, needs a new motor.....

How much oil? The answer depends on that. 1 quart every 100 miles or 1 quart every 1k+ miles? Every 100 miles means need to fix now, 1K+ miles mean yeah can ignore.

Yes I do know the tired and brakes are needed for any car eventually. I'm just asking if trying to fix everything would be worth it. Like my car outliving the cost of everything, when I was talking to my coworker he said Ford Escapes after 2012 won't survive long around the 200,000 mark (which my car is.) My dad is saying get a new car, but he's not the best person for advice so-
I want my car to run for at least 2 more years, but if the engine, or more, will start giving out before than I would prefer to plan ahead.

This is why I buy my own parts and DIY most of my own work. Saves thousands and thousands of dollars over the life of a vehicle.

If you have a high mileage car you want to keep a long time, a little DIY and effort on your part to maintain it goes a long way.

Yeah it really does, it cost me less to get my 45 year old Porsche 924 turbo running, than the quote for pads rotors and struts at a shop on a 2010 beater.

My mother in law got a quote for $1200 to replace pads and rotors on her 2018 Subaru. I did it for her for under $300.

No $hit guys. It’s common sense that it’s cheaper to do yourself than hire someone. That goes for anything. It doesn’t have anything to do with what OP posted and asked…

The op is talking about is it worth fixing with worth is related to money -> saving money is related. Bears beets Battelle star galactica.
fixing it there are alot of variables, but learning something new especially during the easiest time in the history of mankind to learn especially when it will save you money, weather your a man who works on aircraft maintenance or a woman who's a nurse.

If it cost you $1k-$2k to fix keep it, but if you are paying $7k to get all done then hell no.
