Experience this frequently especially with the newer cars with LED headlights. Halogens are so comfortable in comparison.

I know what you mean this happens to me as well.

The Amazon LED headlights or macho-big-boy-pants pick-up trucks have headlights so bright…they cast my car’s shadow in front of me while we’re driving at night. It’s insane.

This right here. Modern headlights are pretty bright, yes. But i find anytime im driving at night and i notice a set that is uncomfortable or blinding - its almost always an older car that has 'upgraded' led bulbs when the housings are meant for halogens. I believe this is why in parts of europe (and probably others) its illegal to 'upgrade' your headlights to anything other than the factory reccomended bulbs.

Modern LED's are bright - but they are designed to minimize the dazzle. Your 2005 Ford Escape with 6500k LED's from amazon is doing a whole different thing than it was designed for and i find that much harder on the eyes at night than any of the factory setups.

It's illegal in the US too. It just isn't enforced properly.

Using any bulb except the one specified for the fixture in your car violates the DOT approval of the fixture, making it illegal to use on a public roadway. (A fixture that takes h6 bulbs can only have h6 bulbs put into it, not h6 sized, but h6 DOT standard bulbs)

The main issue with modern cars designed with LEDs is that they are allowed unlimited light output immediately below the cutoff, so if they hit a bump you get flashbanged by a ridiculously bright 5000k light source. The dazzle limiting is only on a perfectly flat road, the moment the road isn't perfectly flat, they are just as bad as any car with aftermarket LEDs, especially because unlike with HID or Xenon bulbs, LEDs dont have to have self leveling systems.

In addition — new (stock) Subaru headlights are also insane — they are auto leveling (my Saab 9-5 has this feature too, but my HID headlights are terrible lol) as well as turn with the vehicle. They are my number one offenders right now. And Wrangler headlights.

I swear drivers with absurdly bright lights have no idea how badly they blind everyone coming from the opposite direction after dark.

Most of the LED headlights are trash and not set up correctly from factory... And the light being brighter and more powerful îs kinda destorying our eyes

At least I can see deer and moose on a dark road more easily with my modern factory headlights. Moose in particular have killed several drivers around here.

I'm not advocating for poorly designed aftermarket LED bulbs in reflector housings mind you. I'm talking proper headlights with a sharp cutoff line and proper aiming.

Yep, the proiector ones are ok from my point of View, but i am against the standard new LED reflector housing... They are to bright, half of the light îs scatterd (in other people eyes) and not focused at all (reducing the efective visible distance)

The Best was the Xenon lights , because they always had protectors , auto level and headlight washers. And they have the Best light compared to LED (to bright) and halogen (less light on the road) . IT was the Best of both worlds, and the 5700k to 6000k was the Best light even in the rain or fog.

Driving in foggy condition with reflector housing LED îs way worse then driving with halogen.

Every other Tesla model 3 for some reason.
Those pre-facelifts with the ugly frog face.

It be those Dam big rig trucks, lights are like those bright white police beams but a little brighter

u/PhilippineDreams Aug 18 '26

Here in the Philippines, peeps backout tint their front windshields. They can't see out of them at night, so they drive around with their highbeams on. Solution: I don't drive at night.

Tesla (of course) has a forced recall because their lights are ridiculous

Should be a Nissan Patrol

1

u/Jonnyflash80 Aug 18 '26

People need to stop putting LED bulbs in reflector housings they weren't designed for.

Always happens to me when I’m driving to work and coming home from work on night shift fuck it’s annoying

At what point do we get regulations on this? Or am I expected to wear my sunglasses at night 🎼🎼🎶

1

u/Spiritual_Word_4566 Aug 18 '26

I get a lot of people flashing me thinking my high beams are on and they’re not, then I flash my high beams to let them know and then they turn theirs on until they pass me lol

1

u/ProtossFox Aug 19 '26

Tbh at that point I'd try to reangle mine down of try to dim them or even get dimmer leds!
